Saw a MTM or possibly bespoke notch lapel tux from loro piana fabric - $60 :/

Also saw this overcoat, doesn't seem to be much of a market for this brand anymore:

Just grabbed some silk Trafalgar braces for my tux online for $16. I suppose it wasn't an excellent deal, but I was more than happy smile.gif

Also, I really wanted these and let the auction end without bids last week. Did I pay too much?? shog[1].gif

Hi guys, I just started getting into more formal attire and I have no idea what brands are good/buy-worthy that you could find at the thrift store?

That was me 3-4 weeks ago.  Like everyone here said to me, I will say to you.

Get reading!  There is no better resource than just scouring the pages of this thread.  You can see exactly what mistakes people have made when the board yells at them, and exactly what things to take as everyone gets excited!

Stafford, Palm Beach, and Brandini are all pretty good bets. There's definitely more, but that's all I got off the top of my head right now.

First, just put in the time and read the thread. But a great primer was put together by Ogretorix:

Hey, any 9D's like brown captoe semi-brogues?  They unfortunately have heel and toe taps on them, but they're NILE CROCODILE from David Eden.  Will post pics along with some other stuff tomorrow when it's daylight.

Now that I think about it, WTF? Why do people around where I live seem to like reptile skin so much?   Almost every time I've gone thrifting recently I've found lizard, snakeskin, or crocodile.  Weird.  Probably still should've consigned those lizard-skin AE Clayton loafers to Spoo instead of a weak trade from a thread non-regular.... What I get for trying to earn karma points; live and learn.

Had a pretty good day today.  First a couple of questions:

1. Is there such a thing as a Levi's selvege denim shirt?  I've never actually seen selvege in person, so I'm clueless.  I passed.

2. Is this fake?  As I took pictures and, soon after, read THIS, I started to think so.  I've never seen Belstaff in the wild, so, again, I'm clueless.  I kopped, but it was cheap and fits me.

Is the Balmain I'm looking for?  Tagged 54, but fits a 40R me, so UNAVAILABLE for now.  This thing's built like a TANK, but has long arms + working cuffs, so I don't know how easy it'll be to alter.

Also picked up a Theory MII suit for myself and some Orvis tan cords that were going to be for my secret Santa, but are too short.  Passed on Paul Stuart and BB silver label orphans.

HOLY CRAP!!! wow.gif

Regarding the Levi's, from what I've learned, the "selvedge" telling point is the bonded white "self edged" on the seam. Often times, it has a red, yellow, blue, or even white stitching running through it. But the stitching is not the best indicator. The bonded seam is.

Ok so the good news first...

Brioni 3 button nailhead suit, surgeons cuffs, patch pocket, flat front button fly pants. Swear it had a size tag, fits me at a 42R...
The bad news is everything looks real good except some big sweat stains in the jacket (as you can kind of see in the label picture) and a couple little holes in the lining in the same location. How do I clean this?

Other than getting it dry cleaned, you can replace the lining or use the dabbing method on the spots.

Come on man, stop trolling the noob.

You're going to want as much Yves St. Laurent, Lavin (make sure it's the USA-made polyester stuff, not the weird French made stuff), and Ralph Lauren GREEN label (it's like the Johnny Walker blue label of clothes) stuff as you can get your hands on.

I'm jk bro.  Just read the last few hundred pages of the thread for examples of good stuff, and go from there.
