The official thrift/discount store bragging thread - Page 3707

I haven't been able to properly get out there for awhile, but I managed to get to a couple of minutes squeezed in today. First of all, I found out that the shirt(s) were NOT Nanamica, but rather Niama Man and Nanuk, so nothing special shog[1].gif They did have nice buttons, though!

This is one of the windows of a thrift shop I stop in every week. Normally their window displays leave a lot to be desired, but I thought they did a decent job with this shearling coat:

I came out of a meeting this morning that happened to be next door to the consignment shop that I saw the Hermés ties in the window. On a whim, I went in and there were a couple still left. I bought one without taking a close look at it until I got home. After I made it home this evening, I found out that not only was it purchased this year based on the 2012 ribbon, but it was NWT icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif I'll probably get back there for the other one.

I passed on these...I believe they were size 36. Tommy Bahama jeans. Nothing special about them, unless someone here (or their father) particularly likes Tommy Bahama.

I was thrilled to find this NOS Borsalino in about my size. It was made sometime between 1957-1959 I believe and still has all of the shop tags and the crown insert. Never been worn and it's mine biggrin.gif. I attempted to adjust the photo to show its color, but it's really a dusty sort of grey. I found my first Borsalino two weeks ago and thought it would be another couple of years before I found another one in as nice of shape. I hope these things come in threes.

Finally, quick story. I stopped by the grocery store next to my apartment building to pick up some beer. I had eyed this Christmas pack, but I know it's cheaper at another grocery store and 2-3 of the beers are just okay, nothing special. I decided on a 6 pack of an organic beer that I hadn't tried. I grab it and then see that there are single bottles of the Christmas pack available. They were from a broken pack of the Christmas pack and they had been stocked on a shelf. No problem, you can always buy single beers or take single beers from six packs. I get to the front, explain to the cashier what the deal is and she says no problem - until they won't ring. She gets another employee to come over who says that I can't buy them. I said that's fine, I'll just take a six pack. A different employee that I see all of the time says, "No no, they should ring up!" They didn't and he said "ahh hell, just sell them for .10!" So, I ended up with a good amount of beer for next to nothing!

Anyone else thrifted beer before?!

These are some of them...

Okay, since we discussed possible bleeding from using The Method, I wanted to post some findings. I put three dress shirts (blue and pink), and one old tee shirt (red) in the bucket for a soak in Oxyclean over night. The red from the tee shirt bled and ruined two dress shirts that came into contact with the fabric. The tee shirt has been washed many times under normal washing conditions, not delicate, so I thought it would be fine there.

I would use like colors, or avoid tee shirts altogether. I soaked the tee shirt since it had some stains that didn't come out in the wash.

+100
The only bleeding I've ever experienced was from a turquoise coloured tee.

I actually just tried this with an old white silk pocket square with a thin red border. The border bled all over the square but did not get on either of the two shirts that it was with. Square was a bit whiter/cleaner though.

love that coat, though. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

They are marked 9.5C, I usually wear a 10.5B and these fit great, I thought they might be EU sized. Maybe it's just the angle of the picture? ^^^^^^Hansderhund that hat is fantastic!

Found a nice dark blue herringbone tweed SC at the thrift down the block about an hour ago. Here's the only label:

Does Wain Shiell make clothing or just fabric? The good news: no missing buttons. The bad news: many are mangled. Blech.
