(and sorry if this line is getting a little off-track with the thread theme)

FTFY - looks like calfskin creasing to me from here, but it is hard to say for certain w/o closeups. I did come across a pair of Florsheim saddles a while back that actually had shell vamps and a calfskin saddle. Thought that was bizzare.

Topy is a lot cheaper substitute than a complete resole.

That's a shame.  A good amount of the stitching on the sole and heel is gone, so I doubt it would hold together very well without replacing it entirely.

I still have a lot to learn about what can and can't be done with an old shoe... and shoes in general it would seem!  This forum has been a great resource so far, and I appreciate all the info.

I actually loved this one, but it was too big for me. I contacted the seller about measurements and apparently it was sold to someone in Australia for a wedding in a castle.

BALLER ALERT! although I don't think I can justify dropping 2G on a coat, but I drool just a little bit. It seems like a size 42-44 based on measurements.

Thanks for offering to keep an eye out for a coat for me HansderHund, you're a true gentleman icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

My pleasure! I've been buried under piles of work for the past three days and side projects like that are a welcome distraction. She had a best offer option and was open to consideration, but 2k would have been a bit (read a lot) more than I should spend on an overcoat!

That's pretty awesome looking, but I'd be worried about getting red paint thrown on me by PETA lol8[1].gif

A bit of shameless self promotion Capt'n biggrin.gif

Awesome coat and I love the subtle pattern, but I'm pretty specific about my DB overcoat, it has to be 6x2 with peak lapels and a breast pocket.

Ok guys, please help me out with this. I've never thrifted a pair of shell, so from personal experience I know dick. Thanks to you guys i do feel somewhat confident that I know what im looking for though. My problem, these alden monks... I swear to god one of these is shell and one is calf... Could the donor have donated 2 pair, and someone else grabbed a mismatched pair?! If I sell them how should I market them, cause even if one is shell I don't want to market it as shell entirely, and don't want to market them like theyre just calf either...

See! Please tell me wtf is going on here. Teh left screams shell to me as loudly as the right screams calf...

Mix and match. I had that happen to me with an ebay purchase a few months back. Check the numbers...do they match up? As mixed, I either would tell the whole truth in the listing or not list them at all.

Either way, archive this pic for further shell explanation to noobs.

Couldn't have put it better myself.  That's perfect!  Tough break on the mis-match, man!  :(

So I passed on this a few days ago. Had a good amount of handwork but was pretty dated (wide lapels, lower gorge, lower button stance). Couldn't find any other labels on the coat (size label, tailor label, etc). Don't know if it was bespoke or not.

In other news, my secret santa package is en route as of yesterday afternoon. cool.gif

You have to market them as a mismatched pair. I don't think anyone would buy them.

There is always the chance a war vet or another similar individual will need a single shoe.
