A step up from your regular preference and a good deal.
Unless of course you are trolling, knowing our general disdain about RG.

I passed by a Value Village on my way back from an appointment and had forgotten that it was 50% Off Day.
As I entered I began to regret it: it was like an out-take from Apocalypse Now. But I made out alright in the end:
  • 2 sweet Samuelsohn SCs
  • 2 Harris Tweeds
  • 2 Canali shirts (17s). I usually stay away from shirts but I thought I'd try to bundle them.
  • 3 ties: Versace, vintage Gant, PRL
  • A sweet Zegna shirt for me
  • And black captoe Churchs for me. I didn't even try them on until I got home.

.... So I blame all of you for my new thrifting habit.  After never having gone thrifiting just about a week back.... I hauled a bunch of stuff home today, and I am fairly certain it's all good, but I will let you all be the judges of this.

Let's start with the smaller stuff, some ties:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Brooks Brothers Makers:(For me)

1000

Montebello (I feel this was a bad pickup, ill just keep it if its not worth anything..)

1000

Luca Franzini - Available

Next up is Dress Shirts:

Nice Brooks Brothers - appears to be almost unworn... very very good condition, AVAILABLE.

Next is a Brooks Brothers Buttondown - This one is for me, again, basically unworn, incredible condition.

1000

And last we have a Canali - AVAILABLE

1000

And last, is a Canali suit I found... that I really really like, and the jacket fits me beautifully but the waist is just not there.... and I am worried even letting it out it won't fit, but I am going to find out.  If it doesnt fit in the end, it will be available, and I will post back up.

Here it is.

I somehow forgot to take pics of the pants... they are pleated on the front of each leg.

Alright folks... that's all for my 3rd ever visit to thrifting.  Don't tear me apart too badly if I messed up, and of course let me know if any of the available stuff fits you and you're interested.

Cheers :)

WTH is a grenafaux?!?! Like a weave that actually imitates real grenadine? Anyone knows how?

There was a post a while back that actually show the actual weave of garza fina and garza grossa.

http://www.styleforum.net/t/214557/grenadine-ties-uncovered

Edit: the grenafaux looks like garza fina.

Getting there. Pass Brooks Brothers shirts unless for yourself or purple label. If you like the ties yourself to wear brand does not matter otherwise stick to high end brands. Canali suits don't get much love at SF but I love them, great to wear and there is a small market for flippers. Canali shirt is a good buy to wear or pass.

Hey not a bad haul. I don't think the ties are any good except the BB, never even heard of the other two. Does the silk feel thick and good between your fingers?

Look at the inside waist of the pants, is there extra fabric tucked in that can be let out? If yes then you can get it to fit, if not then there isn't anything you can do about it.

Question for you gents since I value your opinions more than those outside this thread...

Grabbed this sweater a few weeks ago, seems like a perfect Thanksgiving sweater. What color shirt would you pair with it? (Reds are less pronounced than in pic).

Yeah I kinda figured the Ties were a bust, less the BB Makers, especially that Montebello I shouldve left.  Altough the silk on both does feel as thick/nice as the brooks, which is the only reason I picked them up.  Oh well,  two more ties for me :)

There is some extra fabric in the pants, but honestly.... I just dont know if it'll be enough hah.  Will be close.

-Capn you’ve thrifted more car/over/top coats than I’ve even seen hahahaha. + you shit shell cordovan, you are the MAN! BTW since your clearly an authority, what exactly is the difference between an overcoat, topcoat, and car coat?

-Ian that was your best fit yet by far! Some things till a tad short as mentioned, but this time you don’t look like you grew 3inches after putting your clothes on haha. Also, props on sticking around. I remember that first post, I was thinking “this dude is a fucking douche” however, you persisted, learned and are a good contributor. Aww I love watching thrifers grow up in thread!

-GMMCL, bro in general I like your fits (double break and all ;) ) but I’d thow in at least one solid item in the last, and I’d drop the PS or replace it with a white linen or something, but what do I know?

Edit On BB makers ties, are you guys actually flipping those successfully?! I had like 3 listings of 5 each, and couldn't move them with opening bid of 9.99... if anyone wants about 15 BB makers ties ill do cost (30) +shipping

I would agree. Too many patterns going on. A solid blue shirt would solve everything, though.

I would agree on the BB shirts, but it can be awfully hard to pass them up. Today, I picked up a non-iron blue stripe with contrast French cuff and collar for $1.50. That was half-off, and I thought I had been pretty disciplined in letting it go through the cycle before jumping. You never know. If I can sell it for $10, including shipping, on the Bay, I won't lose any money, and I think my chances are good. I've also had shirts like this go for twice that, so it is a calculated gamble.

In that case of course! I pay close to 10 bucks for well preserved shirts at local thrifts here.
