Thanks for the lead on that Z Zegna tuxedo shirt! I threw a lowball bid in on it but was outbid. It only sold for $15 shog[1].gif

What was the verdict, US or UK??

Macklemore was basically a regional Seattle recording guy until "Thrift Shop" hit a few weeks ago. With 9 million YouTube views, he's everywhere now, MTV, etc.

If you want to indulge just a bit more Macklemore, check out this video "And We Danced" which is an homage to 80s big hair rock, Michael Jackson choreography, and 1960s Lenny Bruce foul-mouthedness. This talented guy's work likely portends an unyieldingly bright future. Link:

Last call for the secret santa gift exchange!

If you'd still like to participate, shoot me a PM saying you'd like to be a part of it along with your real name and address. I will draw names as soon as I receive everyone's info, hopefully tonight. If you sent me a PM saying you want to participate and have NOT received long PMs with info, please contact me as it probably means you're not on my list. I have 37 people on the list and I think I've contacted everyone asking for their info.

Requirements to participate:
- Minimum 50 post count (anywhere within SF, not necessarily in the thrift thread)
- Willingness to spend up to $25
- Willingness to ship a gift on time

If you've sent me all of your info, I'll send you a personal (as opposed to group smile.gif) PM with your partner's contact info, SF username and any preferences they mentioned to me. I'll also include a short list of gift ideas that should be acceptable to everyone.

Thanks to everyone for responding so quickly and I apologize if you've received the same information more than once!

Does anybody know how I can rock these?

Not brag-worthy, but incredibly comfortable.

Um.  Have you checked closed auctions on ebay for genuine vintage NASA mission patches?  You may change your mind on keeping that jacket complete, as found.

Hmm...the next time you're scaling a vertical glacier?

Honestly, not really. They might be your style and really comfortable, but I don't know of a situation in which they'd really fit.

Very very recent Brioni for Neiman Marcus black peak lapel sports coat/orphan.  Slimmer fitting 40R, soft as a baby's bottom.  Unsure if it's a keeper as of right now as I don't know how much use I'd get out of a black sports coat.

Needless to say, I was fired up....

Pics later tonight....

Except that the fabric seems often to be stiff and crinkly. Is that from dry cleaning, cheap tweed or other? I have never owned a tweed jacket for the long haul, so am unsure what to expect.

Find a harris tweed, or a quality donegal (will have nice "hand woven in" tags). Feel that, that's what good tweed is like.

It should be stiff. It's a dense, heavy, rough wool, originally made for being durable work and hunting wear- think breaking up rocks in your fields during an irish or scottish winter, 34 degrees and rainy. It may very well soften up after years of wear, though there are tweeds these days made to have the look, but be softer. Those won't have quite the durability and warmth, but that can be good for some.

But since they do last forever, finding a decent tweed jacket for yourself is fairly easy. Grab yourself one and wear it for a while.

Those are intended for people who work in industrial settings. Say, a mechanic, or somebody on a factory floor with lots of fluids dripping on hard concrete. That's the vibe they're going to give off regardless of what you wear them with.

dunno if this was true everywhere, but when i was in high school (in southern california), i think that style of shoe was called "creepers." goth-types would wear them. sort of the same crowd who'd wear doc martens.
