BTW it's not directed to you Last Don. My post just happened to be below yours.

I'm not either kind. Fuck.

It's true, like many of us, he's sometimes a cock (but less often than most of us). But he's also an incredibly talented writer, a source of great information, and clearly one of the very best intellectual assets this board has. I'm pissed now that I chose to become insulted when he termed me a newbie months ago (when in fact I was exactly that) and, as a result, foreclosed a possibility for another good and likely particularly rewarding SF friendship. By the way, I've regretted the unnecessary display of whatever-the-hell-that-was, and I've wanted to publicly apologize to him ever since. Clumsily, belatedly, that's what this is. Very sorry, pnutpug!

For a second there, I thought you were referring to whose name shall not be mentioned! LOL

Do want.

Clearly Nataku's emoticon confirms that some J.Crew is pretty effing desirable. Is that generally true (surely not!), or is it that this particular item is especially lustworthy?

I made a comment on it too. JCrew, unless it says Thomas Mason or Wallace & Barnes or something to that effect, is largely passable. I did flip a jacket with some success though so ymmv. That particular cardigan was just a nice, easy to wear piece. Use your discretion on styling and age when contemplating jcrew at the thrift.

^^^ I almost never pick up J. Crew anything.  However, I do have two pieces that I picked up secondhand - a dark heathered green shawl collar sweater for $4.99 (made in China, no less...  uhoh.gif ) and a pair of chocolate brown desert boots for $5.49 (made in Italy).  Aside from having to perennially restitch the seams on the sweater and having had to replace the leather insoles in the boots once, both have been quite nice.

When it comes to thrifting J. Crew...

j.crew is like anything else... just gotta use some judgment on what's worth it. IE, plain wool vneck, i would leave, something like that cardigan, cop. quality seems to vary a lot on jcrew, i don't feel like it wears esp. well. also, a billion people sent me pm's on that and other stuff, i will respond to everybody tomorrow

At my local SA, one of the workers makes you remove the hangers, and she's not all that nice about communicating that to you, either.

I remove the hangers before checkout at the thrifts I go to, not worth it having a cashier mess up whatever I'm buying.  I do dislike it when I hand over the tie such that the price tag clearly shows and the cashier decides that s/he needs to pull the tie towards her and basically bends the tip when doing so.

If I avoided all the weirdos strangers, I wouldn't have met HenryBoogers or Grendel.

I've had some good conversations with fellow thrifters, but I find that it's best to bail early if we are on different wavelengths.

I see jackets somewhat regularly, but never anything I would consider quality. It's all been fused and fits right in with the Stafford.

And that 30's linen suit... I have no need for it, but the want burns in my belly.

No matter the context, that's rarely a good thing.

Woman: That's not so bad, is it?

Worm: Depends on the grip.

I found some pretty nice things today. I hadn't been out in awhile, but tomorrow is a national holiday, so I took off early for the long weekend. First, patriotism in Austria:

As I took that picture, a well dressed man told me "Herr Dr. Pichler? Your car is waiting." For a split second, I thought about just saying "thank you" and just going with it. My face must have given it away because he realized I wasn't the man he should have found.

Moving on...

I picked these things up at a thrift that generally knows their stuff and prices accordingly (read: higher than normal). I am, unfortunately, way too busy to do any further trades/sales at the moment, so everything is unavailable currently. As soon as I get some time, I'll try to make some things available and post them.

Chester Barrie 90/10 wool/cashmere. The colors are great but I don't think the camera picked them up well. A deep green with a blue overcheck. Side vents, hand stitched buttton holes, fully canvased, ticket pocket, 3 roll 2.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Ermenegildo Zegna (recent?) 60/40 cashmere/silk "easy jacket." It's the first time I've seen a Zegna jacket made in Spain. There are faux buttons, but the sleeves are ready to have working buttons. On my some of my jackets, the sleeves will come without buttons and I've been asked where I want them and then they add the working cuffs. Did the owner not want working cuffs or am I missing something?

Great looking Canali. Navy with MOP buttons everywhere.

A first for me...

Okay, so they're a bit silly because they have some weird angled pocket on the side, but they're as mint as they come from a quick inspection and I wouldn't leave them.

Here are a couple of fit pics. The quality is shameful, so I'm not posting them in the WAYW thread, but thought I'd throw them up here as I was wanting some feedback on the trench coat fit.
