Very good to know, Troika! My LVCs do indeed have the red line selvage as your guideline describes.
Maybe it's my imagination, though, but I'm seeing a faded red line in the auction's selvage... Here's a close-up of that pic:
Yeah that's the thing. The pictures on the ebay auction make it evident that these are the real deal IMO.
Note the buttons, the most common numbers are actually 2, 5, & 6 denoting their manufacturing factory.
In addition, I believe that the selvedge line is actually different.
This is the vintage pic from the auction. It is plain and without stitching.
Modern ones looks like this. Pic of LVCs

Damn, Doom was a good game at the time albeit with a nigh on impossible difficulty!
It looks similar to Bostonian but it is hard to be certain. I am by no means as versed in this as the rest of you are as well, so please correct me if I am wrong.
Just a guess, but it appears to be an 'S' at the end of the label, possibly Stacy Adams.

Study the 'S' and its font in the images below for comparison. (right-click - 'open in new window' to see full size images)
Hope this helps.
edit.....wait....there seems to be the letter C or G before the S....oh well.
So...I went back for them, what say ye? This is after a cleaning.
And here's the shell, these are the best pictures I could come up with, they cleaned up quite nicely if I do say so myself.
eazye, can you snap a few more pics of the insole where the company name would be, preferably without direct light? Although it probably wont work, I have an idea....
