@ Brianpore:

Lol. I was only in preliminary negotiations with a couple of members and started my end off with a number within the mid-range suggested by a couple of SFers with more knowledge about Lattanzi than myself as I really don't know anything about anything. Didn't really get any pull in the opposite direction. Lowball or highball - I'm open to any reasonable monetary offers.

Ouch... Just looked at some listings on eBay for Lattanzi's... not even shell... Yeah, I'm priced out of that.

I can understand where you're coming from with that. I've had some problems in the past, but have so far been relatively lucky - no scammers, just buyer's remorse over sizing or style issues when there were accurate measurements and a selection of good pictures.

I have a bunch of good pictures of these shoes from all sorts of angles, so if there's anyone out there who has an interest in these shoes just PM me with any reasonable offers or questions and maybe we can work something out. Thanks! -M-

^^^^^^Be very careful with the Lattanzi on the bay. You are probably best to sell them here to an SF bigtimer.

It has been very scarce around these parts for anything nice. So I thought I would take a chance on ebay with Mainy's suggestion on the lumberjack shirts.

Yup, it was a pure cashmere Polo bear sweater. Quite rare and very collectible. It was quite the target. It wasn't a low number either. I was out $800. Be very careful with high-dollar items on eBay. I try to avoid it at all costs and much prefer to sell to people I know on here. The only stuff that goes up are things I know people on here don't care about and items that gained no interest of purchase when posted.

How did she manage to walk away with it? Didn't you have delivery confirmation?

Are the details of how / what happened somewhere on this thread? If so, what was the time frame that it was current so that I can take a look at the past pages? I'm sorry that it happened, of course, but I would like to use it as an opportunity to learn to avoid such a crap outcome. Thanks! -M-

And don't forget (as I think some do on occasion) that this is just one thread in a much larger SF community. You can list it for free in the B&S. Be SURE to use tags (not sure how or why they work but they do) I'll sit on stuff for months rather than go on ebay, but that's just me. Well, not just me, but you get the point.

We should make some kind of reference sheet. If you want to read this thread, here are the communal history things you need to know. I think this story comes up almost monthly. I'm sure it will be reexplained over the next 12 posts, so I won't contribute my fallible recollections!

EDIT: here's where it started in this thread. Spoiler: it turned out badly.

i too would prefer to trade within this thread (see my signature) rather than sell + buy, but it just doesn't seem like there's any way to do so effectively. i know the ebayers on this board maintain a google doc with blocked buyers on it. would a google spreadsheet called "items i have for trade" with columns for description, color, size, etc help to facilitate thrift-trading? just a thought.

+ 1, I am not so interested in buying or selling for that matter if the money involved is serious - this is supposed to be fun, and when something becomes serious, it stops being fun. I am happy to sell for a steal to another member here, help a fellow out who would otherwise spend double or quadruple on eBay. One or two here I have dealt with have a good idea on the spirit of finds, i.e. they find something, you can have it for X % over what I paid if you have nothing to trade. It is nice. But it would hurt this thread if it turned into a left arm of B&S or eBay with people wanting to maximize their profits. Finding, bragging, and trading / exchanging is part of the fun. Finding, bragging, and then saying "I want half of retail for this" detracts from a small time hobby.

+1

Nataku did delivery confirmation. The buyer told ebay he packed and shipped a plain navy blue t-shirt, and that the package was opened when she received it. USPS said the package was fine when they dropped it off as they remember. Nataku said he can prove that the weight was different when it was shipped and what she returned to him, but paypal said he could have packed it with extra papers or other things. The shirt this lady sent back was used even. Someone found the exact sweater that was sold from the same city under a different username around a week later. In the feedback for this seller, someone wrote how they got scammed in a similar manner to what Nataku went through.

SF wants to find this ladies house and alert her boss, coworkers, friends, and family that she is a lying stealing whore :slayer:

Being new to this thread (lurked for a bit before joining) and a thrift store / charity shop "hobbyist," I think that this thread seems like a great place for finding, bragging, and trading / exchanging. It's just fun for me to see the great stuff that other people come up with. And Klobber's right - when a hobby becomes overly-commercialized, it stops being enjoyable. -M-

dudes: being the proactive type when it comes to non-work-related matters, later tonight i'm going to create a trading-centric google spreadsheet where us hobbyist thrifters can list the thrift items we have available for trade, as well as the items we're looking for. send me a PM with your google username if you want to be added to the list.

i think having one centralized document would make it easier to figure out who's looking for the items you have, as well as who has the items you're interested in.

if you have any suggestions on what columns to include or any tips or if you want to tell me to shut my piehole, please PM me as well.

Lol! One of the few times in my adventures through other people's cast-offs that I really come up with something special, I gotta make it count. Besides, any money that I make off of them will probably end up back at the store where I found 'em given enough time! -M-

We have one somewhere. I had it linked on my signature forever but I tried updating a whole back and it seemed locked. Maybe with increased interest we can get this thread going again:

Polished up according the instructions on the Carmel of Alden / Shoe Care online page and ready for eBay later tonight.  (No insertion fees January 26th and 27th for those of you who have already used up your 50 free ones for the month.

Silvano Lattanzi brown shell cordovan Norvegese split-toe bluchers.  Size 10 1/2 - 11.

There is no way I would list these on eBay. Do some research, and list them on B&S. Take into account shipping and specify personal payment. High Dollar stuff moves on that forum all the time. Plus you won't be giving $20-30 fees to eBay.

I'd be willing to bet if you list those tonight they'll have a new home by the w/e.

There was a thread dedicated to thrift trading but as mentioned a few posts again it died as no one used it. Link below (I was too lazy to find it)

Do not specify "personal payment' as that is against the B&S rules if you read them.

Oh I forgot, anyone in NoVa looking for some Brooks Bros french cuffs staples in blue or white, let me know - I left about 12 of them, freshly dry cleaned in pristine condition on the rack...I can either proxy or let you know where they are, so PM me.

Are these the magic one size fits all?
