The official thrift/discount store bragging thread - Page 3085

Not only that, the more we grab from the rack, the less they have to put away. At one shop I go to, shit gets crazy when a new rack/cart rolls out.

^^ +1. That's odd. Never been yelled at for that. Occasionally we get glared at by employees when myself and four other people charge the rack all trying to get something nice first. Hell, that's about the only way to get the good stuff at my local stores. Most of the good stuff doesn't even have the chance to hit the actual racks.

That was only the 2nd time I've sniped on the new rack before stuff was put out...at all the GW's here they make an announcement about letting them put the shit on the racks & shelves first, and I always see people digging thru them anyway.  The other time I did it the lady was real nice about it.  But this time I got hollered at.  Well, I'm gonna do it every chance I get from now on - wait til the worker grabs ten things to put away so they're gonna be gone a minute or two, then make my descent.  Grab based on labels and look at it later (under good lighting, which I have learned the hard way - find the best and brightest lights in the store and pore over that stuff).

Hold it up to said lights

I'm really contemplating carrying a small flashlight into some of these stores.  The only good thing is that it always follows a simple rule of thumb, the less, the cheaper the clothes are usually.

Just wanted to say thanks for the NoVA suggestions today.  I ended up heading to the Seven Corners Goodwill and scored:

-Brooks Brothers 346 3 button coat

-2 Ties (Tommy Hilfiger and Izod)

-Izod Button Down Collar Shirt

-Jhane Barnes Shirt

-Jos. A. Banks Sport Coat

The BB 346 appears to be a blue blazer (metal buttons with the "golden fleece" imprint), but I couldn't find a 3 button blazer on their site, so not sure what to think. I thought all blazers were 2 button, but I am relatively new to this fashion thing.

The BB, maybe, if it fits you 100% perfect and you needed that to fill a hole in your closet, but I'd go return everything else or at least don't post it here as you will get 'yelled' at by some mean people who kick carts...zing (too soon puzzled.gif)

I thought I did pretty good for someone just starting out.  I needed a navy blazer and the BB 346 should fit the bill until I find something to replace it. I know it's not as good as the main line BB stuff, but it will work for now.

I am sorry, it took me this thread and some decent scores to become a dick...peepwall[1].gif...

^^ Brooks Brothers 346 blazers, if the right vintage, are nice. The recent, factory store 346, not so much. I have a couple of 346 hopsack blazers from the 80s that I love. Natural shoulder, patch pockets, 3/2 roll, solid construction.

Had a decent day today. No pictures because I dropped my camera and broke it, which obviously sucks a veiny dong.

Anyway:

Canada Goose down vest
J Press glenplaid flat front trousers
AE Park Aves
RRL denim jacket
Pringle cashmere sweater

No worries.  I know it's not the best, but again, we all need to start somewhere. It does fit me extremely well though.

Tell me about it. I live in the land of ice and snow and I've never found a Canada Goose garment. I'd also settle for any Crescent Down Works piece. nod[1].gif
