Pry-ed myself out of bed this morning to hit a garage sale. One other woman was standing outside with me waiting. The house owner was out front (the sale was in the back alley where the garage was) on the porch. We waiting until opening time rolled around. Nothing. The women told me she had just come from a sale that never opened and there was quite the crowd of angry people outside. However we both thought something was amiss as there was just the two of us. We then walked around front to speak with the homeowner. He said there was a death in the family and they were going to the funeral today. The sale had been rescheduled. Everyone else seemed to have gotten the memo except this woman and I. Oh well. So up at 9am on a Saturday. Decide to hit some thrifts. Made the morning somewhat worth it.

- Alden split toes. 11 B. Gummy soles. Needs some serious leather conditioner (doing that now).












Trying my hand one more time with Gucci. If this flops, I give up. Real leather. Heavy brass piston lock closure. The only thing that makes me second guess is the inside Gucci label. The # on the back of it is crooked. The way the label is merely a "tab" looks so cheap. You'd think it'd be a leather patch sewn onto the lining. Spoo, please tell me this thing is real. If not, I can return it but will likely give up with all this highly-faked stuff.

Alpaca really is wonderful to wear. I have a cheap cardigan off e-bay, and even though it's low end, it's simply a wonderful feeling fiber. Really light, soft, and warm. Only trouble is that it's much fuzzier than a wool or cashmere would be, but that's just part of the look, though it may be mitigated with higher end alpaca yarns than the ones used in the sweater I have.

I always wondered about shoes like that. Do people really buy high end shoes without even knowing that you need to polish them on rare occasion? Or, with so many people used to wearing sneakers and throwaway dress shoes, have we lost that knowledge?

It boggles the mind. I've seen at least one pair of really nice shoes that were clearly donated because the owner didn't have the faintest idea as to what shoe polish was and thought the shoes had been ruined by all the scuffs. Worked out for me, because with some conditioner and polish they were fine, but I can't quite wrap my head around why somebody would sooner get rid of $400 (or more) shoes for want of $3 shoe polish.

Thanks for the info guys, it's available if anyone is interested.  Marked a 46R and seems to be true to size.  I'll let it go pretty reasonable.

Had some awful near misses today.

Most recent Canali suit I've seen in the wild. Maybe 1-2 years old. Black tonal stripe. 2 btn. Side vented. No pants!

Super recent Hickey Freeman Collection suit. For Saks 5th Ave. Loro Piana fabric. Pockets still basted shut. Again, no pants.

I did pick this kick-ass slide viewer up for $10. Been after something like this for awhile. I have a ton of slides but hooking up the projector and a big clunky screen is a PITA.

Wish I could find more Billy Reid around here. One of my favorite labels. I'd kill for a pair of Billy Reid work boots.

My first thought, PUT THIS ON!! Checked. Sure enough featured item and the traffic was unlike any thing I have ever experienced - close to 100 watchers, not views - watchers... Great to see Jesse and his team build something so successful!

This will be my first thrift brag! I"ve previously mentioned that I've picked up some Alden and AE shoes in the past, and last month I got a couple of nice linen blend Brooks Brothers jackets, but nothing really brag worthy, until today. I left behind some barely worn Hanover cap toes (was that a mistake?) but I did get these shell AE Macneils. 

 

 

It was not- I dropped off a lot of J Crew and polo (recent stuff- last winter and current) that probably got picked up real quick. There was dudes hanging out and waiting for first dibs on new stuff when I went lol
