.  This is the first thing I'm considering having reweaved.  Worth it?

Reweaving can get expensive fast. I would expect to pay $100+ to get those reweaved. Plus, it is difficult with a pattern like that. It might not look quite right. I would just rock the jacket as a sc. Are they both your size?

Picked up this pair of Burberry Prorsum. I rarely see anything from Burberry's top line in the wild. Size of jeans below is a 34.

I got a story about those Burberry, a story of coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Been out of town for a bit, but a journey brought me to a thrift store that was jean paradise. Yup, we talking 100's of pairs of NWT / NWOT denim.

Most were Levis, but I lost count of number of Diesel jeans as well, must have been over 10 pairs maybe even 20. Saw quite a few pairs of usual blah blah jeans like True Religion, 7 Mankind, APC etc...

What about the good stuff? How about other brand labels?

How does Kiton sound to you? I kid you not, there were 5 pairs all for small fuckers in waist 30 - 34.

Any other brands there? Well yes, Burberry Prorsum = 4 pairs (30 - 34).

Any other brands? Yes, most I never heard of though. Mostly made in USA, Japan or Italy but brands I did not recognize, possibly recognizable by the SW&D crowd. One of the brands that caught my eye was just an alphanumeric code.

Ok here goes on the story. I walk in and go ape shit in the jeans section, throwing dozens and dozens of pairs in a cart like a crazed MF. When I get around halfway down the rack, I started noticing prices. $50 plus per jeans mostly, a few in the $20 range, pink tags, never likely to go to 50% off. Out of my league this one for the luxury stuff, so ignore the rack and focus just what I got in cart. The cheapest lux jeans were the Burberry Prorsum I ended up getting for $40. I could not afford any other jeans, so had to leave them. The Kiton were $79.99, and that is waaay too much for jeans. I took all the jeans out of the cart, placed them on the rack and scoped out the rest of the store.

About half an hour later checking out shoes wondering whether to sink $16 on used AE Park Avenues, I noticed a guy in the thrift store with his partner and two trollies overloaded with jeans - he must have been spending $1K plus that day! I noticed later he or someone else did indeed pickup the Kitons and other Burberry's.

Lesson to all you guys: Never ever allow your credit card to be maxed out, and do not place yourself in a position where if you are outta work you find you have nothing in the background to tide you over for days like this!

Wow... Like on cue you find a Prorsum... A first for the thread, I think. Too bad you couldn't grab any of the Kiton jeans. I hope you didn't see and pass up any RRL jeans in / around my size lol8[1].gif

A great lesson in moderation, as always.  There are numerous pairs of NWT Borrelli jeans on eBay right now for $89.99 + shipping, none of which are moving particularly fast.  They're pretty cool, but you couldn't flip Kiton jeans for much more than $125, methinks.  Just because it's far below retail doesn't mean it's a good idea to blow your wad and invest countless hours and dollars into trying to wring a profit from something.  I mean, I'd be stoked if you found something recent, in my size, and were willing to give it to me for cost + shipping, but it seems like you stumbled on a rad consignment store that might have the perfect pair of jeans for you to kop and wear...they must've gotten drunk on the scenery and lost sight of what they could've actually done with their purchases.

I saw a pair of RRL jeans in another thrift store but completely wasted, bottom of hem frayed out as if caught in a bicycle chain! I agree with you, RRL are fan bloody tastic, my fave jeans at moment. That jeans haul included no Ralph Laurens apart from Polo Jeans Company stuff.

I agree in principle on most brands.

Kiton jeans though, I am pretty sure on the $80 price, you could double your money (not on Styleforum but on eBay). Kiton is just one of those brands like Hermes where whatever you pick up for whatever price, a profit is there to be made. I am pretty sure I sold a pair of Kiton jeans on eBay before for $150 or so, and some pro eBayer's like Spoo and some other sellers like Mtobis or Auspiciousone could indeed score $200 plus for a NWT / NWOT pair. It would probably need patience, but Kiton jeans are one of those things you rarely see in an outlet centre and they rarely go on sale much below retail.

Probably still worth it at thrift prices to be honest.

Let's be honest, though - a pair of Kiton jeans is probably just a really expensive dad jean.

Spoken like a man who knows these things. Kiton is not a brand of jeans that feature on my want list for my wardrobe, sport coats and suits on the other hand ......

Made me a little sad to leave them, but if they were priced like regular jeans (4 - 6 bucks) and not considered boutique pink tags, I would have around 20 or more pairs of decent denim today offering the thread my wares for double proxy plus enough for a round of beers. Not to be this time.

Yeah RRL were only 4 bucks. If they were my size I would have picked up. If there is a way of hemming jeans to hide damage, I reckon I will pick up finds like this and get my wife to shorten the inseam. Just gave me an idea here....

Yeah, that's totally doable. My tailor charges a couple bucks extra for denim, but there's no problem.

Not sure if anything like this has been tried before, but would anyone be interested in a sort of thrifting competition/challenge?

Concept: See what is the best outfit that you can create for yourself while thrifting within a given time limit and money constraints.

Here's what I'm thinking:

- set a time limit of maybe 3-4 months

- set a money limit of maybe $75-100

- extra money allowed for tailoring

- see what the most complete outfit you can make (excluding basics)

- keep the tags/receipt pics for proof of time and cost

- extra points for most complete outfit/under cost

- consignment stores may be allowed as long as overall cost is below the limit

It's understandable that it would be really challenging to people with uncommon sizes, but I think it would still be kind of fun to try.

Would anyone be interested in this at all?
