Hugo Boss expensive-y select line(?) brown cotton velvet pants, 34/32.
lol8[1].gif

For trade, if anyone's interested. Otherwise, onto the huge list of tailoring projects they go.

Oh I will. I'm just quite cautious about the lapels on jackets I thrift. Wasted too much money on jackets and suits that ended up having super dated lapels where the notch is super low on the lapel. That's what I was worried about with this one, but I think it looks alright. I'd prefer the notches a bit higher but I think it's alright, on the lower side but not too low.

Thanks

i haven't picked too much up at a thrift store (worth bragging about) but im definitely in the pay the tailor more than you paid for all the clothes you brought to him club hahaha its worth it though, can't get that fit off rack anywhere, and getting it on some pretty cool vintage clothes not available anywhere else is just nice land where everyone is wearing the same thing i used to wear. thrifting is a great way to set yourself apart

Is there good thrifting in SD? I'll be going back for a visit soon. I lived there for two years, pre-clothes-craze, and don't think I set foot in a thrift store once. Of course, not having a car in SD really limits your ability to get around. Meanwhile, in SF, I walked from my house to three stores, and then took the bus back to a fourth by my house. And this is what I found. Either the tax donations are bearing fruit or a lot of people held on for one last... Easter? (Click thumbnails for yadayada...) First, on half-off Monday, a pair of light blue Cifonelli wool/cashmere slacks, size 34 (up for trade/sale; first pic is closest to color):
DSC00131.jpg
Next store: khaki Corneliani suit in damn near mint condition, double-vented, wool super 110s, size 38R, dorp 7. The only defects I can find are a pinhead dot on the right trouser leg and a loose thread on the "Made in Italy" label. I do know it's been worn, though— I found a quarter in the pocket!

I am more than a little annoyed that this doesn't fit me... The jacket is beautiful, but I guess I need a short in Corneliani, because the fit is good, but it's a little too long in the body, and the pants are a bit looser than I like. So, up for sale/trade, too. I smelled blood, so I dug these out of the massive tie bin:
DSC00122.jpg
Hermès, Hermès, Bottega Veneta, Battistoni
DSC00123.jpg
Barneys, Brooks Brothers, Dior, Lorenzoum There were a bunch of ugly Armani and Givenchy ties in there, too, but when I pulled the Veneta and Battistoni, I said to myself, "There's Hermès in here. I know this for a fact." So I dug, and I dug, and I dug, and, crushed all the way to the bottom, there were two Hermès ties. Dior I normally avoid, but this didn't have that cartoonish front-tip logo, the pattern and quality are both nice, and the tipping is a little vintagey-yellowed, which made me think it might be pre-license whoring, so I picked it up. Any Dior-heads out there that can date/assess this for me? And the "Lorenzoum," I have no clue, but I liked it. So, riding a wave of luck, I decided to check out the store that never gives me anything. And it didn't give me anything of value, but I did get this old San Francisco dept. store brand, half-lined linen coat that will do me nicely during the spring:
DSC00128.jpg
(Roos Atkins is the dept. store. I can't find any other labels, so I assume it's store brand.) Undeterred, I sped to the fabled failing ground of the GW flagship. Suit racks yielded nothing but a PRL (cut like Made in Italy but sans origin tag) gray pinstripe suit whose jacket fit beautifully but whose pants were made for a clown, so I put that back and went for shirts, where I found:
DSC00127.jpg
Sulka, Billy Reid, CafÃ
00a9.png
Coton Sulka's 16/33 and for sale/trade. And I picked up this to use as a pocket square:
DSC00130.jpg
Grand total: $65.79. Minus 25¢.

*PHEW* Now I'm going to drink a beer and watch Nurse Jackie. (And if anybody's curious about any of this, or the 42L Brioni blazer or size 12M PRL croc loafers from last week, you know what to do. Or it'll be going on the bay soon. Any tips for a newbie clothing bayer? Daddy needs a new MacBook!)

Awww... Thanks, Frenchy. Glad I can entertain. But I didn't even tell you the odd encounters! While I was looking at the scarf/pocket square at GW, a very bubbly woman who was trying on a jacket, out of the blue asked me, "Are you a designer?" "Uhh... no? Why?" "The colors in that, that was an interesting choice from the rack." "Just looking for pocket squares." "Oh, that's creative!" "??? Thanks?" But my favorite encounter of the day: the lady in front of me at the SA checkout happened to pass me again, a few blocks away, when I was waiting on the bus. As she was walking by, she said "You got the shoes for that coat [the linen checked one]?" "No. 'Fraid not. I'll have to get some white bucks, won't I?" "You sure will, and when you wear it, wear it good. Let 'em know you the boss."

If this occured in a thrift store, then yes, they would be stealing your money as they didn't pay a dime for it, it probably stinks or has other issues and add to that the cost of a reputable reweaver in your area, if you can find one.

As soon as a rack of clothes pops out, she literally takes 1/2 the rack, puts it into her cart and goes off into a corner and sorts through it. She nabbed a nice Brooks Brothers Golden Fleece shirt from a friend of mine yesterday as well as ran her cart into his leg as they were looking through a rack of "new arrivals". Ridiculous.

I would be tempted to lose my control and go wild to that "B!tch" I cannot believe somebody could nab a shirt from someone else. How low can people get these days. It is really sad.

I don't know if it was the beginning of it all, but you have to go back at least 20 pages of this thread to see what it was all about.

I'm wondering if you act the same way she did to you on her, what would that happen?

I'd make my day and make me a longlasting smile if somebody do that to me.

Let me set the scene for everyone....

Stopped by a local thrift on my way home from work. Gave a quick look throught the racks which visiting this thrift frequently allows me to do now. Prior to heading out figured I would take a look at the display cases. I'm up to my eyeballs in gaudy costume jewelry when I hear, "Excuse me?". Quickly look up to see a woman who I can only assume sauntered out of her trailer wearing her finest pair of sweatpants with a cartful of kids. She has her arm extended out to the local thrift employee. In her hand appears to be a plastic, grocery bag which is tied off at the top. In the bag appears to be some sort of liquid. "It's puke. What should I do with it?", she asks.

I quickly turn and head out to the car wondering what kind of message the thrifting gods are trying to send me.

My all time best thrift shop purchase was a charcoal gray RLPL suit with a muted windowpane for $60! I wore that suit for about 4 years and passed it on to a friend. I bought it a thrift shop in Hempstead L.I. I originally went in to see if I could find some cheap baseball gloves/bat to donate to my church's youth team.

Have a recent thrift encounter story too.
A month ago in the local SA , found a nice Brooks Bros. corduroy SC fit me like a glove. Waiting on line to pay ($8.99)..i hear a woman's voice over my shoulder, "You look exactly like a boyfriend I had 10yrs ago. He was the best looking guy I ever dated".
Flattered and somewhat embarrassed, I turn, saying "Thanks" and the stench of cheap vodka coming off of her hits me like a shovel to the face. She's showing me her busted smile and her eyes that are saying, "take me out back and you can have me".
She's probably my age , but hard living makes her look 15yrs older.
I turn to the cashier, pay, and bolt out of there as fast as I can.

Unrelated, just got a thrifted suit back from the tailor. Looks pretty nice. Will try to post pics. $18 for the suit+$29 in alterations. Kingsridge navy 2 button w/ flat frt pants.
