This thread cleaned up rather nicely after adding Frenchy to my ignore list,

If he ever can produce photos to verify even half his claims, let me know.

That and if you have been to Toronto....people dress very fashion forward there imo. The time I spent there for work back in 2001/2002 I was blown away.

I got burned for the first time today. Probably won't be the last. After checking the clothing/shoe racks and turning up a bunch of nothing, I went into the housewares area and found a beautiful pair of Brooks Brothers cedar shoe trees, taped together at the metal shanks for only 5 dollars.

It wasn't until I got home that I realized they were both for the right foot. Oh well, instead of the AE's, I put them in a pair of low end J. Ferrar wide width double monks. They didn't complain.

I can't verify everything he says he has...but I remember the table he mentioned and the cool MIB Roland sythesiser thingy from the early 80's. I also remember the bacth of NWT tags Hermes and thinking to myself I can't find a decent used Brooks Brothers tie the last nine months.

My best scores recently have been the clearence at the Saks Off 5th. I got a Brioni tie for $29 a couple months ago and last week a really nice pair of black Bruno Magli wingtips for $120.

Those Brionis do indeed exist and they're quite beautiful as well.

Actually I haven't been finding much of anything lately. So far 2011 has sucked with the minor exception of the gorgeous recent dress shirts (Borrelli, Fray, Etro...) I found a month or so ago. Not sure where all the good stuff is going. I regularly do an eBay search of quality labels (Brioni, Kiton, Isaia, Borrelli, Cucinelli, etc) and have it run the search to only come up with stuff within 100 miles on Minneapolis, just to see who else is out there. Not much, if anything pops up. I'm willing to bet some of these consignment store owners are out there like packs of hounds scouring the thrifts.

Yeah, not every deal is going to be a Kiton suit for $5 or something. A couple of years ago I was going past a warehouse for an office furniture outfit and they had a "sale" sign outside. Got a Platner coffee table for $100 (it retails $1,300 new):

But I was in dire financial straits at the time so I sold it for $500. Wish I would have kept it, but I needed the money.

I thought I was being paranoid when I thought the same thing. I could swear that I passed on a Hugo Boss suit that then popped up at my local, very over-priced consignment store. I wondered if someone would thrift something and then turn it in for consignment or if the store has people out searching? I can't imagine that would be very lucrative way for a flipper to sell thrifted goods because you have to split the earnings, her turnover seems really slow (she's WAY too expensive), and she's notorious for trying to screw people out of their money. I read one online review where someone noticed their suit was sold but she told someone their item had been shoplifted so she didn't owe them a penny.

Found a nice, 100% silk twill Belvest sportcoat in khaki. It's a pretty recent: two button, side-vented, etc. The only issue is that one of the patch pockets has come unstitched. A cheap trip to the tailor and it shall make an appearance on the 'Bay. $6.99

I would not doubt that one bit. The lazy flipper. Pay someone a cut to do the work.
