When my wife was there, she mentioned that they didn't previously have a limit on purchases and the cashier told her it was due to people buying up anything high end at one time.
Not sure how it's any scarier there then a goodwill? You go a couple blocks west and you're in the financial district (my old office was in the building Ruths Chris is in).

Jesus that's sick. I think we've got flippers out here but they are usually pretty polite and I think they go for like the designer, high priced things. I don't really get why a store would stop people from buying them though, especially because most flippers are going after things that sell well (Dolce & Gabanna, Gucci, etc.) not the quality goods that people who are dedicated thrifters, or alternatively the people that actually need all these clothes search for. I think it's more likely (at least here) for an immigrant mom with a couple of kids here to accidentally buy a Brioni sweater for her son because it looks and feels nice than it is for a flipper to. I guess that's why I've never really had an issue with flippers, they kind of weed out all the bad things and keep the prices on the things I don't want high while keeping the GW employees in the dark about RL PL (I'm still shocked most GWs here don't mark it up, I think they thing Purple label is like a knock off lol), Brioni, etc.

Again though, I probably should've made it clear, I'm not really doing that for flipping, so sorry for anyone who was hoping I'd just be buying up all types of Kiton / Brioni stuff. I just want one or two suits from either RLPL, Kiton, Brioni, Sartoria, etc. level that fit me for myself. I'm still gonna be out there damn near daily once I get my funds back because I'm thrifting more for fun and what not, not to survive.

Oh yeah, I have noticed that they are often rude. My brother was so peeved off when one flipper guy rolled a cart on his foot and did not apologize.

I saw a couple of pro flippers hitting a store nearby, both of them female probably middle aged. The store arranged shirts on small racks one behind the other (there were about 4 aisles of shirts) and they had a brilliant scheme which was to park the cart inbetween the racks facing north south (with racks going east west). Simplest way to stop people picking, block two whole rows. While they amused themselves with shirts, I amused myself in the sport coat / suit section and found a recent Giorgio Armani Black Label Sport Coat and a Zegna Mainline Cashmere Overcoat. I also picked up a Dunhill runway type bomber jacket. I felt like walking by and saying "check what you two morons just missed out on" laugh.gif.

Some cheese with your whine?

I've a feeling some of us SFer's feel entitled to the better thrift finds, hence the crying when someone else gets them.

In good time my friend, in good time. I am trying to build suspense! But in all seriousness I haven't really looked over anything yet. Sizes will be coming with pictures later.

This! (Shakes Fist). However, I have no complaint. They are usually nice people and aren't interested in the same types of things I am.

Plus, I am young and non-threatening looking. So these people usually see me camped in the suit rack, come up to me and ask, how cute are you looking for a suit for your first college internship interview?! I am not going to be like "no, I just snagged these three Zegna's from under your nose. What now!" I just smile and nod.

If they won't fit anyone's woman here, I'll probably keep them as a glass slipper of sorts, as I think they're awesome.

I've had a dry spell recently, so I was really pleased to pick up these Lattanzi hand-welted loafers earlier today. They're marked a 9.5 which I think must be a UK size, and they only seem to have been worn a couple of times (but stored without trees). My head spins when I think about how these ended up where they did:

I picked up 2 pairs of Allen Edmonds today at Ye Olde GW. Park Avenue's and McAllister's. PA's are 8 1/2 D. McA's are 10 A. Toooo small for my 11 or 11.5. Available. Also a cool Pendleton Hat made in USA. It too is available.

If you're into gingers, this could be yours... WTF?

hit up a store for the first time in a month. nothing but Croft & Barrow (sp?) and Staffords as far as the eyes could see. Des Moines as a whole is sartorially challenged. shog[1].gif
