Same here! I used to come across them fairly often. As of two years ago, I haven't found a single one. Come to think of it, it seems the nice tie stock all together really dried up around here.

I like the critter and random object ties as they add a little fun and humor to the outfit. To each their own, though.

Someone unloaded a small pile of upper-midrange ties at my local GW. I passed on a couple of Robert Talbot BOCs in colors I didn't like, but got a nice one in paisley, a pretty cool Kuhlman, and an Altea that I'm not really sure of, but it's the only one without a snag on the front. I'll have to try to repair the other two.

My iphone in indoor light takes pretty crappy pix, apparently. Doesn't do justice to the colors.

Can we have a thread where people show post a WAYWN shot with them wearing the ties they thrift?

I'm just as guilty, and have far too many unwearable paisleys, and goofy patterns I picked up just because of the label.

Hey Everybody! Wanted to introduce myself after reading through the first 150+ pages of this wonderful thread. I've been a avid thrift store shopper since I started collected video game systems a few years back. Before finding and reading this thread I use to go to go the thrifts to find old video games/systems and various garage tools/computer electronics, now I'm looking to improve/"grow up" wardrobe in an affordable way. I hope I can make positive contributions to the forum and this thread. Thanks!

Man, I envy you city dwellers so much after reading through this thread. I live out in a small town, only around 3 thrift stores total within 45 minutes of me, and I've never seen anything better than a Brooks Brothers..

having said that i do see the attraction, after all you instanltly know a Hermes when you see one so i think thats why they are so popular.lets face it like it or not they are iconic.
what gives me ten time more pleasure is finding cool and unique vintage items like that poker table (sold for $400 by the way someone was asking,if it was 50 years older the figure would have been closer to $4000).
or this made in japan 70's desk "Pill" lamp.simply awesome

Just out of curiosity, what do you think is the average price you got for your hermes ties over the years?

Also found last two weeks:

Made in Germany khaki hugo boss cord suit size 40 good condition,

khaki Borrelli slacks single pleat size 50 or 34 like brand new

brand new Brioni pants double pleated weird colour green/ khaki

Henry Bucks suede leather belt, one size too small, loved it though wish it fit me

Brand new without tags Silk and wool Hugo Boss Sportscoat, no vents, my dad loved it... till i told him it was from an opp shop hahaha!!

ties galore, including a PAL ZALERI with contrast rope stitching on the back (never seen before)

Also what are this threads thoughts on a medium used tiny black and white birds eye Brioni SC w vents, perhaps 10 yrs old?

its 20 bucks worth a flip?? it has great lines.

If I want to do serious thrifting I have to drive a 210 mile circuit (11 stores) or a 240 mile circuit (11 stores). I try to do each every 6 to 12 weeks.

Some Brooks Brothers stuff is great; made in US OCBD's, many of their vintage or trad items, ties. I suppose I have unsophisticated taste, but my favorite ties are BB. Concerning the vintage, it helps to have some knowledge. Last week I picked up a yellow BB OCBD, with six buttons, unlined collar, and a label which dates it to the seventies or early eighties. It is no huge deal, but I expect that one of our trad brethren will snatch it up at $25 or so. They literally don't make them like that any more. The money isn't significant, but I enjoy finding things like that.

A pair of Wildsmith bespoke hinged shoetrees, roughly my size hence usable. I left wondering what the chances were the shoes were donated with them...
