Hit 7 stores yesterday. Bought some shirts, a few ties, one pair of Bill's. And these two. An apparently new military issue XL desert camouflage parka and a lightly used medium CWU-36 summer weight flight jacket. The velcro on the flight jacket is for patches (squadron, US flag, etc.). They are velcroed on because uniforms are "sanitized" of unit identification when they are flying operationally.

Cool finds on the military gear! I collect Vietnam-era stuff, so I grab old ERDL, tiger stripe and OD jungle stuff whenever I can and it's in nice shape. I just picked up a parka like that in APECS camo (the new digital tiger stripe). It's really neat. Also, if any of you guys see any tiger stripe jackets/pants while you're out in this particular pattern, grab em for me and I'll gladly pay a proxy fee! Should be close to this color and have no tags, just a black stamp inside that says US-M or A-S (US Medium, Asian Small, etc).

^^ Cool, thanks. Going a bit OT, as this is stuff 99% of you would pass over. Also, if you can tell ERDL and Woodland camo apart, I've been looking for a non-Marines (no US Marines stamp) ERDL camo jacket for a long time in a Medium-Large. All I find are smalls. Woodland:

^Hmmm. I was wearing camo when the transition was made from the ERDL to Woodland, but I never knew it as ERDL. We called those jungle poplins. They were not as durable as the woodlands, but were 100% cotton while the early woodlands had some polyester and were burning hot in the Quantico, VA summer. Later woodlands were available in pure cotton IIRC. The slant pocket poplins like in your photo were earlier still. There was a degree of saltiness that went with wearing the slant pocket poplins back in my day (early to late 80's).

i live pretty close to a military base ( pendleton) and i see a alot of millitary stuff, most of it is US marines, but recently i 've seen some really wicked navy stuff that i've never seen before.

It didn't have any name patches, and it had 2 little metal pins on the shirt one was an eagle on an anchor with a flintlock pistol laying on it. that one was pure green or "olive drab" if you're playing a video game :3

and the other one looked like the "woodland" one up abouve
but it was stamped USN

didn't know the navy wore that. where would you wear something like that? or are they just required to have it?

^^^^ That sounds like a Navy SEAL pin to me. My advice is not to wear that. Especially if you live anywhere near a Navy base. A real Navy SEAL would not take kindly to someone appropriating their insignia. Even with the most innocent of intentions.

Yeah, the transition happened around 1978, IIRC. Before the transition ERDL was know as the leaf pattern or just plain camouflage. They called it ERDL because it was developed by the Engineer Research & Development Laboratories back before the Korean war, but didn't start issuing it 'till Vietnam. I actually love the slant pocket stuff. Those went out right after 'Nam in '74-'75. The Vietnam era fatigues (jackets mainly) had a good tailored fit. The new stuff fits like a paper bag. Also, if any of you guys see this new digital tigerstripe (APECS) stuff floating around, grab it and I'll buy it off ya!

oh **** thanks, you prevented an ass kicking. yeah i was thinking about it. but i thought it would be a bad idea since the proximity to a number of bases out here.

there are quaite a few pea coats that i avoid just for that reason

I've started to see quite a few young people wearing actual uniform pieces and insignia as casual wear. I know people have always done some of that but right now it seems to be in particularly bad taste. I'm a veteran and I can't even bring myself to wear an old pair of BDU's, much less some high school kid with Justin Bieber hair wearing ratty jeans, a Marilyn Manson t-shirt and a USMC dress blues jackets (with medals!). I saw that at a movie theatre yesterday and nearly choked. I wish some former DI would have seen that and squared that dude away.

I cannot and I mean CANNOT stand kids/young adults my age that wear fatigues or any military inspired clothing. War is not glorious or how shall I say, "fashionable". I see ppl wearing camo cargo shorts all of the time ...

I never served but to you and every other vet, I thank you for what you've done.
