It is indeed. As is most of Minnesota. We're in for 10-12" of snow Saturday with highs barely getting above 0 on Sunday.

I love snow but the bitter cold I can definitely deal without.

I know - I have to fly to Columbus on Monday and drive to Cleveland the next day. The high on Tuesday is 19. Being from Texas I'm not sure my internal organs will continue to function at that temperature

The only bright spot is Great Lakes Brewery. I love that stuff and they don't sell it in Texas.

<3 Great Lakes! Get you some Christmas Ale, that'll warm your vitals right up!

Today just one find: a cashmere & silk scarf from Daniel A. Hanson, who I had never heard of but appears to have made some really nice stuff. An intriguing acquisition, if nothing else! The best part: just 1.91 on discount!

Big fan of the Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold.

If you have time while in Cleveland there is a Filene's Basement on the East side of town. It's been two years since I've been up there though. Good mall also up in that area as well.

I actually work for the company that distributes the stuff. They've already put aside some Christmas Ale for me! I'm touring the brewery on Wednesday and having dinner at their restaurant so I'm planning on also making a serious dint in the rest of inventory.

A nice scarf is something I never bothered to thrift and now I'm regretting it. You just don't see that many around here and I bet the thrifts in Ohio will be picked over by now.

Since I'm not from the land of scarfs here's a dumb question: how do I tell the difference between a man's and a woman's? Maybe I see so few because our thrifts just mix them up? Is there really a difference?

Nice. Perhaps this string of good luck will hold out for just one more item.

I love that Filene's! I wish we had them here (we've even lost our Sym's). I think I happened to shop there the week it opened. The one in Columbus is even bigger but the big downturn hit between my visits in '08 and '09. In just about a 6 month period I saw a huge drop in the amount of really high end stuff they carrried. I thought it might be a typical fluctuation in selection but since then it has just never seemed to be as good. BTW - the sub shop in the parking lot isn't too bad either.

I love that mall you're talking about. You should also check out the nearby Nordstrom's Rack. It's in that new outdoor shopping center near the mall - I think it's called Legacy something.

Ah yes, Dortmunder Gold. I tried it the first time because it was the only non-Bud, Coors, etc. beer the little stop-in-rob I visited carried. I was blown away! I'll be picking up a six-pack of that on my way from the airport to the hotel!

It's Legacy Village - it's really near Beachwood Place, where there's a Saks/Nordies/BB if you want that type of shopping. The Rack is pretty meh in my experience compared to what I hear ay pbout in other cities, but there are still some nice things occasionally. The best part for you - it's right up the highway at Cedar Road, not far from Harvard Road where the Filene's is. That sub place is called Dibella's if I remember right, we used to go there all the time.

Thrifting in Ohio isn't necessarily picked over - remember, most people aren't looking for high-end stuff, same as anywhere. Just have to have patience and luck more than anything. I'll PM you about Cleveland.

Re: Filene's - the Cleveland location definitely sees less stuff - the best stuff I ever saw was a rack full of Borrelli. Picked up one tie... this was before I knew how much it went for on B&S.

The one in Cbus is probably twice the size, though a lot of that is because of their huuuuge shoe department. Cbus gets stuff from Barney's regularly where nothing like that ever came through Cleveland.

Scarves - men's vs. women's is all in what you're willing to wear, I think... it's pretty common to see stuff mislabeled on Ebay, for example.

^^^^You guys are wimps. I used to live in Montreal. The coldest temperature I ever experienced was there: -58 C with the wind chill. We didn't know how cold it was until we left my place for a friend's apartment, about a 15 minute walk. That was the longest 15 minute walk of my life. When I still lived in Ontario about a few years ago, I remember a 2 week stretch in February where the highest temperature of those 14 days or so was -17 C. Long underwear helps, and don't forget to plug in your car.

I had a meeting in Minneapolis a few years ago and my wife wanted to come. She's from Houston: that place makes Siagon feel like Siberia. When we got off the plane it as 17 below! She recreated that scene from "Cool Running" and did a u-turn at the door right back into the terminal. I've never seen her that freaked out. I had felt temps like that back in my Army days in Germany but even I had forgotten how much it hurt. You guys are a tough bunch.

Got to go know: we're heading to our favorite patio bar that looks out over the lake. I guess I might need a light sweater for once it gets dark...

^^ Haha, that's Minnesota for ya! We're due to a normal winter, as the the recent ones have been pretty tame. Had a decent day today. - Brioni sportcoat. Dark green with a subtle blue and red windowpane pattern. - NWT Polo RL jacket. Tan w/ brown leather trim. Patch pockets, handwarmer pockets and a cool plaid quilted lining. - Oxxford suit. Charcoal flannel pinstripes. - New Martin Dingman leather belt. I'm also a big fan of Euro cars, so I was thrilled when I found a hardcover book on the Audi A8. This one, to be precise. http://www.amazon.com/Audi-A8-Jurgen.../dp/B000E8TID8 Cost me 15 cents!
