I'll second what everyone else has said. You only see the good finds posted here. Once in awhile we need to vent and we'll post about how fed up with our dry-streak, but most of the time it's all the good finds. I usually find stuff 1/3 trips, but I hit at least 2-3 stores at a time. Sometimes 5 or 6. I too have gone months with nothing and then all of a sudden I'll hit the motherlode. That one major score keeps you going. I'm still running off the fumes from a couple years ago when I scored 10 Brioni suits/sportcoats in one place for peanuts.

yeah socal kinda sucks like that

EVERYONE knows designers out here

can ask some homless dude on the street and he'll know who dior is and will probably pick up an article of clothing from that house if it was sitting in a good will

Yeah. We had made a trip out to San Diego earlier this month while I was down there. Out of 8 or 9 stores, I didn't find a single thing. Not even a tie! I had never struck out like that, ever. Oh well. Glad we didn't dedicate the SD trip to just thrifting(we were down there anyway for my brother-in-law's wedding) or it would have been a complete waste of gas and a day.

If it makes you feel any better, I got skunked today going to two thrift stores. Yesterday, i bought three shirts with stains that may not come out. It's a marathon, not a sprint. I have found my thrifting not as good since Nataku got back from vacation =)

I overheard a guy in Goodwill say he does not mind buying stuff with stains because he uses a product called "Folex", which is found in Lowe's in the cleaning dept. Anyone here know about it?

Went hunting with a goal in mind (and you know how well that usually turns out)...needed to find 2 pairs of overalls and red and green hats and shirts for Mario and Luigi costumes

Red and green shirts should be easy (just hit up one of the stores that rolls with color sorted clothing). I wasn't expecting to find hats but figured they could be had at some crappy dollar store.
I knew overalls would be tough.
Dudes here certainly don't wear overalls (and the ones that do, wear them to death) so I was ready to go quite a distance on my lowly bicycle (the nearby SA's are open until 9 so I could keep going)

First store I hit up...has HATS! tons and tons of baseball caps sorted by color. Easily scored almost plain (just a logo where they will be covered by a big M or L) unworn hats in red and green. Eventually found one wearable pair of overalls and figured I would put off shirts until I found more overalls.
Hit up the second store and can't find any overalls but find a perfect match red shirt with no printing/logos and sort of close green t-shirt with a small Polo logo. I was about to leave with these when I thought to ask about the overalls--they directed me to try the womens dress section and sure enough, near the end of the rack, I find a pair of overalls that should fit my friend.

Could still use a better match on the green (the hat is darker) but I think I got super lucky considering I rarely see overalls and managed to find one that would fit me in the first store and one that would fit my friend in the second and didn't have to start going to further and further away stores.

Went to 2 stores today and found these Brioni items in my size. My first Brioni jacket, hopefully suit not to far away. The cap is new.

Distressfully yours.

nobody ever comes downtown, so i'll give you an example. There's a goodwill around the corner from my office and i stop in occasionally after lunch. some days it's nothing but penney's and towncraft. some days there's boss and armani. some days there's borgonuovo and rlpl. it's a total crapshoot. with the emphasis, most of hte time, on the first syllable.

Karma. There may be something to it.

Few days ago at another GW, tried on the jacket to a Romeo Gigli six-button (all six buttoned, not four or two) with weird lapels. Wanted to see if it fit better than it looked. Returned to the same GW today and saw the jacket hanging by itself. With my dinner jacket experience still fresh in my mind, I was annoyed. Looked over at the pants section and found the matching pants and returned them to the jacket to complete the suit.

At lunch, went back to the GW where I bought the DJ last week and, trolling through the women's pants for the umpteenth time, I found the matching pants!

Still can't believe it. A Purple Label tuxedo in almost excellent condition for $18.98!

Hi all,

Glad to see that people are starting to score some nice stuff. I had a hot streak there for a little while, picked up some stuff that I really needed for my wardrobe, although nothing too special.

I did find a Brooks Brothers suit, and I was hoping someone could help me ID some stuff from it, like if it's GF or Makers or 1818. Here's the labels:

I swear it fit better when I tried it on, but looking at it now, it's too long in the shoulders so I'll be throwing it up on B/S once I get a better idea of what it is.

Found a Dior Sweater and a pair of Weejuns that had pennies in them. Could use some cleaning up but they're not too bad.

Neil Barrett band collar XL shirt. Is it worth the time to put this on ebay? I see alot of Neil Barrett on ebay but it appears to be BNWT outwear and boots. Kind of a weird find.

Folex is generally used for spot cleaning of carpets. Been around for quite some time. Never thought of using it on clothes though.
