Here's part three of the series on menswear thrifting: finding the good stuff.

All three posts are here.

Jesus H. Whiz, man! The Yardbirds! Yeah, I'd forgotten all about that. They were all the rage, briefly, back in eighth, ninth grade, when everyone was reading all those Led Zeppelin bios on bus trips. laugh.gif Truth be told, the movie sort of just strikes me as terribly dated compared to his better films, and probably lacking half the smarts people like to attribute it. But that poster art -- woo!

Anyhoo, I grabbed this Lagerfeld personal/smallish-run(?) tie, based on the write-up of someone in B&S...

First Oxxford Clothes finds today. Two DB 6x4 suits, one dark grey, one navy super 100s. The best part: someone had stashed the jackets away in the ugly lady vest section. There was a third jacket but I couldn't find the pants. Oh, what a good feeling it was though reuniting the grey and navy jackets with their pants.

These aren't my husband's size, so PM me if interested. Both suits seem to be around 42R and the pants are 36x30 with cuffs.

I passed on a Lagerfeld just yesterday! I was tempted, though.

I was in a low rent SA today (with a REALLY nice restroom, however) and there was a T&A blue, small dot tie hanging all by itself over the dreaded BOX O' TIES. I almost walked with my new find then sighed and dumped the BOX O' TIES onto the floor. Dead center still in the bottom of the box was a yellow Borelli with a smallish paisley print. Nothing else but it's been a while since I've worked a BOX O' TIES so it was good for the soul, I suppose.

I'm not sure if this belongs here, or if I should start my own thread, but I would like some experienced people to give me their opinion.

Today I found this gorgeous 100% cashmere navy 3-button suit. It's made in Canada, but beyond that I don't know too much. It's about a size or so big, I'm going to take it to the tailor and see if he can make it work. I paid $30 for it. I have a week to return it if the tailor can't make it work. Do you guys know much about suits like these? Was this an absolutely great deal, or just meh?

Any guesses as to the value of this on ebay etc, or just general thoughts/info about it would be appreciated.

Hit three places today and had a massive bust on the clothing end, but found quite a few excellent records for $1 each.

Ahmad Jamal - Night Songs, Genetic Walk
Hubert Laws - Afro Classic
Benny Carter - Further Definitions (original Impulse press)
Toshiko Akiyoshi Trio - Dedications
Tom Waits - Foreign Affairs, Blue Valentine
aaaaanddd my favorite (and probably best find).... Antonio Carlos Jobim - Wave (original A&M press)

Follow up to two posts above, I went to the tailor and am about to spend $70 on alterations, so lets hope it works. Here's a quick fit pic I snapped at work:

fite.jpg

It was 44L, I'm probably a 40/42R. He liked the fit through the torso (I was skeptical of that). I'm in a new city and I did the "look for an old guy with a thick European accent" thing to find a tailor, so hopefully he knows his stuff. The shoulders seem a bit wide. I ended up getting the sleeves and length shortened so we'll see how it turns out.

It does look like the shoulders are too wide. I think I see divots. This is pretty near impossible to fix, as I understand it.

Dos anyone know anything about the label Barberini? Picked up a nice shirt today, but I can't find anything about it on the internet.

Nice finds! I'm not a D/B guy, but I'm sure someone on here would love to give them a good home.

Had the best thrifting run in awhile. All thanks to my timing. It was close to being another fruitless trip and I was getting ready to head out when I saw two racks in the back room ready to come out. I waited. First rack I found a gorgeous recent Oxxford "Sovereign Cashmere" grayish-brown glen plaid suit jacket. 2 btn. Single vent. On the next rack came the trousers to complete the suit. Then I found another treat: a gorgeous charcoal w/ blue pinstripe suit from Belvest. Side vented. MOP buttons. Super 150s fabric. Very recent. SCORE!

Both will be up for grabs. Belvest is a 42 R. I'll try and get some pics up tonight/tomorrow.

Grabbed some great records too. Nothing crazy rare, but all in NM shape and stuff that's hard to find in that condition (mid 70's funk, Jethro Tull, Mountain: Avalanche WLP, etc). While crate-digging the wife found 6 brand new Crate & Barrel dish towels (one style which I wanted to buy in the store a couple weeks ago but held off - glad I did!) and a bunch of nice shirts for herself.

This suit is between 40 to 50 years old.
Value on Ebay = $0

Jacket is too long and your tailor should have not only known that but should have advised strongly against pursuing alterations. Careful....this is a money pit.
