Twin Cities, Unique Thrift has some great quality but more expensive. Memorial Day is 50% off. Would love to know where Nataku shops.

I found a Strativarius violin dated 1714 today. Only to find out it is a copy made in Germany, still from the 1700's.There went my hopes of retiring tomorrow.
Here is a link to the violin photos, also a vintage AE u-throat burgundy, 8.5, and vintage Mason Chippewa Falls wing tips. I think they are shell.

Yeah, so first off, the bow is garbage, you have a greater chance of finding a good bow with a **** violin than you do finding a great violin with a **** bow.
2nd of all, if you look inside and it is "made by" Strad, Guarnari, or Amati, its fake/repo.
There are other makers that are repo'd as well, but not nearly as much as the "Trinity" of makers from Cremona. I would be suspect of anything "old Italian".
My violin teacher did get a violin from an old lady that had a treasure in her closet, but it was not found at a thrift store, and she knew what she had, but wanted significantly less than it was worth.
Better if you find an old English or French violin as they are likely to be authentic and worth serious money.
Better yet, look at the bows if you run across a violin. They are often worth more than the **** violin they come with.
Look for a name above the frog (the large ebony part that the hair attaches to), and look to see if the metal on it is either gold or sterling silver.
If they are, likely it is a valuable bow. Decent bows start around $3K and go up to several hundred thousand dollars.
