... But between the whining about crappy finds, corrupt thrift store managers and voracious flippers, the anti-semitism, and the abundance of garbage that newbies are posting as "finds" (sorry but it had to be said), this thread is really going down the crapper. Not trying to make enemies here, but can we all show a little restraint and keep the posts to relevant and valuable thrifting finds? My suggestion is that if you're not sure on what you've found, err on the side of caution and keep it to yourself or seek assistance from one of the more knowledgeable thrifters (i.e., not me necessarily).
Sorry guys, just trying to keep it real here ...
The anti-semitism was shocking, I'll give you that. That has absolutely no place here - or anywhere.
On the other points:
I may be the main one bitching about corrupt managers. I apologize for blathering one but I'm glad I have a place to vent where other people understand and also have stories of their own. I really enjoyed some of the stories, especially the guy who finally got his hands on that sacred pile of records. I think we all agree that flippers are hurting our hobby and I love to hear stories about when someone scores one for "our side".
I believe I started both tangents this week and I apologize that I apparently completely derailed the forum.
As for the newbies, what are we going to do: put together a master list of what we deem as acceptable finds? Frankly, I need one because sometimes I inadverdantly bring home a turd or two. If not that, are we going to have someone designated who reviews all posts beforehand and approves them of being worthy of the 15 seconds it takes to read them? I nominate Nataku or AntiRabbit because the 9 months out of the year when they get no sunlight gives them plenty of free time. Think about it: sometimes one of the guys finds something - like a gold hippo - that have no place in a forum such as this but yet it had me laughing out loud and made my day.
Come on, lighten up. Sometimes I'm so bored at work that I'm just happy to have somebody post something. The last thing we need is for this to turn into the WAYWRN thread where a handful of senior members have turned it into "my wardrobe - and life in general - is so much better than your off the rack, uncultured, redneck living Hell so you must worship me" shrine and where newbies are eaten alive for fun.
Bring on the polyester Pierre Cardin ties and Stafford suits! How else are they going to learn?
I'm not being a jackass - you still find awesome sh*t
