Are Johnston and Murphy any good?  They're all over in the thrift shops here and I've always left them because I figured if they were that plentiful there must not be much of a market.  If they are good, how good are they for flipping if not in my size?

I'll give you an honest opinion on J&M. They were my first foray into "better" shoes almost 15 years ago. I liked the made in Italy ones with the rubber soles. The company I worked for work corporate casual...and they worked great with Khakis. Theyhad a higher end line made in Italy I think made by Magnanni if I'm not mistaken and carried a $200 plus price tag.

Since then they began outsourcing their stuff much like Cole-Haan, Bostonian, and Florsheim....they are a shadow of their former self. If they are for your own use and they are in good shape...pick them up and use them until you find something better. If you find a pair on the old Made in US or Italy pairs and they look pristine, they might bring you something or would make good trade bait. Otherwise I'd leave them.

As for the smart ass replies to Raist earlier posts....not sure if it's the weather or lack of good finds, but right now there are a bunch of you who need an attitude readjustment.

Went thrifting with evil_abed
Nice car, a friend of mine at work had an Infiniti coupe for a while. Personally I would have saved myself a few grand and got a 370Z.....I like the look better.

I copied the best breakdown of Gant that I could find here

It might help. Dunno.

Seen Huntsman discussed here but refused to believe it existed in the wild. Until

Both owned by same dude. Not having measured I'm going to guess a 40R-ish. The pant legs are long. Must have been 6-0, 6-1ish

Just a general comment: These Robert Graham shirts are spreading on racks like e. coli at Burger King.

I found this yesterday at the Goodwill. A Emilio Pucci by Ermenegildo Zegna Suit w/ Flat Front pants. Everything looked great until I looked at the sleeve. Aaargh! I couldn't find a lot of information on this line. Sold by Saks. I might kop it and try a re-weaver that has been posted on this thread previously.

Sorry for the crappy phone pics.

Things I brought back from Vienna...

A couple of silk pocket squares (unavailable):

Hugo Boss Selection suit. I don't pick up a lot of Hugo Boss, but this one was Super 150's (unavailable):

700

700

Burberry jacket. I don't think it's an orphan, though it could be. It's not nearly as big as it appears (unavailable):

700

700

McNeal shirt. McNeal isn't expensive, so I leave almost everything I find. I do, however, have a couple of linen shirts from them that are great. I grabbed this because it's 10x better than their normal stuff. Sea Island cotton with beautiful buttons. Size 40, available.

Canali shirt (unavailable):

Charles Tyrwhitt slim fit:

Two beautiful summer Borrellis (unavailable):

Ferrari polo:

I found a number of hats that someone didn't get a chance to wear or from a shop. A couple had store tags.

Wool cap (unavailable), made in Belgium:

700

700

Wool Christy's London (unavailable):

700

700

Insane rabbit and beaver fur hat. I don't know what I'll do with it, unless I transform into a '70s street pimp, but I couldn't leave it behind.

Any hat guys out there know the age of these? They're NOS...

Brown Royal Stetson (unavailable):

Grey Royal Stetson (unavailable)

Ties, L to R: No name bird tie, Bally, S.T. Dupont (a first for me), Alexander Wien:

700

Paul & Shark cardigan, XXL. I missed a couple of small moth bites in it at the shop, only one goes through. Available.
700

700

Austrian Army Alpine sweater. HEAVY and no flaws. These are cool and really useful in cold weather. Tapered waist keeps it tight on the hips.

700

700

Bruno Maglis...owner used shoe trees. (unavailable)

700

700

Smaller rucksack from a local company that went out of business. I always pick these up when I find them. This one has a neat small exterior frame. (unavailable)

This one fits pretty well and was dirt cheap. It came from a menswear chain that closed a year or two ago. I find a bunch of their stuff NWT. Their house label isn't bad, but it's usually marked up pretty high. This is a wool/cashmere blend that I'll likely only wear once per year, but it was worth it at that price.

First things first. Call social services to apply for an orphan reuniting permit.

Once you have the proper credentials, simply find a fantastic suit jacket...such as the Hermes I was working on. Carry it around the store looking for its mate. Start in the men's, the most likely place. Don't overlook the potential for it to be improperly paired with another jacket or on the floor under the rack. Changing room racks. Womens racks.

Keep your fingers crossed and your hopes down. There is no match more often than not, especially at stores like goodwill who have a central distribution center.

This is pro advice.

The Huntsmans I found were orphan jackets at first and I was really really bummed -- not for the flippability or tradeability, but just when you find something nice like that you grieve in general that it was separated...if you're a clothes dork like me, and if you're poasting here, you'd better be hahahaha

...and there they were, 4-5 racks away, together, just like the coats were paired in the coat section. Was not as successful with a corneliani found same day, different stoar.
