I found 7 nice Charles Tyrwhitt 16.5x35 dress shirts today.............all monogrammed CDW on the breast. AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH. Anyone have that size and initials CDW, or want to remove some monograms? If so, PM me.

I also saw several newish Jeff Rose polos in small checks and geometrics. Are these worth picking up?

On a more positive note, the store gave me my first RL Purple Label find, a nice linen shirt undoubtedly left by Mr CDW.

Things have been pretty slow here for awhile, just now starting to pick back up. I found two almost new lacoste button downs, the nice ones that retail for 119, then two hardly worn BB shirts. I've only found one suit down here and that was forever ago (really nice MTM J.Press, heavier wool/flannel?, dark charcoal with close pinstripes), but recently I picked up a really nice tweed jacket from local mens store Perlis. After drycleaning it, I think I've come to realize its just a little short on me (39R), might trade if anyone's interested. I just picked up three pairs of nice, thick, wool slacks. One BR made in Italy, really cool fabric (I don't get the hate for BR here, their nicer pants are not bad). Then a pair of Zegna 100% wool pants that are super nice. It's a heavy wool that is gray/green with blue accents, all blended together. Probably one of the prettier pairs of pants I've seen. Just today I found this older pair of YSL pants, "70% wool, 25% polyester, 5% other." I don't normally fuckswit polyester, but these pants were really cool wool with alternating purple and orange overcheck, very subtle. Other than a few BBs, not much has been happening with ties either, until today. One Robert Talbott, one Charles Tyrhwitt, and my first ever piece of Brioni. It's a nice argyleish design, cream with blue/purple stripes. Pretty cool, but I'm not sure what I'll pair it with yet. Nothing really spectacular though (not like the first time I went to this place and found two Hermes

Today was rainy and I decided to take a day off from work and do a thrifting circuit which I like to hit every 3 or 4 months. This is an all day affair, involving over 200 miles and hitting 10 stores. This is not my "go to" thrifting trip or even my second choice. It's too long and the stores are usually not particularly productive. Rainy day, I need a thrifting fix, Lila wants to go for a ride. Saddle up! Here is my sidekick.

It's cold out, and wet. The two places I hit in the first town netted a sport coat and 3 ties. Not skunked, but not a big hit. The next town is about 50 miles down the road. Two stops there and all I bought was a seersucker Lands End jacket. This was from a big GW and a SA. The GW was full of "close but no cigar" type stuff, Gitman dress shirts, several Hart Schaffner & Marx suit and sport coats, stuff like that. After mentioning in this thread a few days back that I had never seen a pair of Bill's Khakis in the wild, I did see a pair with a stain. These were underwhelming, a lightweight almost "dress pants" type fabric, nothing special at all.

On down the road I decide to hit a tiny SA in a small town which will only take me a few miles out of my way. They don't have much in there, looks like a waste of time on this cold, wet day. There is a nice looking pair of khakis, feel heavy......Bill's. These are very substantial. I see what the big deal is about Bill's Khakis. Not my size, but a nice score. And this is an omen.

On down the road to the next town. The first stop is a big GW which has never been productive for me. Skunked. Next is a smallish SA where I buy a tie. Right outside of town is a consignment shop which has these colored tags which give discounts ranging from 25% to 75%. Last time there was a nice Brooks Brothers suit there but it was only 25% off which made it a little more than I want to pay for a BB suit. The BB suit was gone. A RL polo linen short sleeve shirt, pink with a lavender pony was still there, and my size. But it was still only 25% off. Skunked.

30 miles to the last town. A big GW is first. Nothing. This has been pretty much a wasted thrifting day. I have a few things, but nothing major, and this is a long trip. And, oh yeah, Lila puked on the back seat 2 towns back. The final potential stop is a Salvation Army which puts about 6 miles extra on the trip, and it has never been the source of any major finds. Suits and sport coats are more expensive in this store, for no apparent reason. But, what the heck, ties are less expensive than the other places and I have scored a few ties there in the past. Let's give it a go.

I pull up and go inside. I like to hit the shoes first. Nothing on one side. Nothing on the other......wait a sec. Those there on the very end look interesting. Kind of different. Like alligator, or at least leather made to look like alligator. And the things on the end of the laces are cool.....combination heel, Nettleton. This is a cool vintage find. I am now officially glad I stopped here. On to the tie rack. Here are a few knit ties.....and a few more, and more......this is officially a hell of a big score of mostly knit ties. Here is a pic with the Nettletons, the ties, and BB braces, along with a few shirts found later.

On to the jackets. Hmmm here is a Brooks Brothers jacket which looks kind of like an orphan, but it has shiny buttons. A keeper. Heres a cashmere jacket with an unfamiliar name, Van Lebow for Hartz. I kind of like it so it's a keeper too. Then I run across a light colored jacket, not exactly my style but I checked the label...E Zegna, and it's in great condition. Score. Then another, and another, and one more. 4 Zegnas. I can see that these were donated by the same guy.

Maybe he donated some shirts. He did. A bunch of E Zegna, Canali, and a smattering of other Italian and Swiss makes; Borrelli, Bruli, Equilibrio and a couple of others. Hmmmm, how about trousers. Yep, mostly Zanella with a few others represented. I had been putting this stuff in my "layaway spot" at the register area so I went up and inspected it all and they rang it up. I asked if I could have a few hangers. Normally, I have to either beg or charm pretty hard to get a hanger or two. The boss (there were three employees folding and bagging my stuff) said "Sure, we have too many hangers". Here are my free hangers.
2-5005.jpg

I loaded the bags up and took them home. Here is the haul. The jackets are Zegna, Van Lebow, BB, and 3 Zegnas. In the second pic, the shirts on the left are all Zegna. The next row of shirts are Canali. The third row of shirts are various Italian and Swiss makes. This is most of the trove, but believe it or not, it is not all. I left a few for the next guy.

Nice Haul. I picked up a jhane barnes(for neiman marcus made in the U.S.) sportcoat with pockets still sewn shut, it looks like somebody bought it never wore it, go tfat and donated it, while not normally a brand I bother with for 5 bucks I figured it would be good to pick up.

I was at an estate sale and saw a sweater that said Merona for Bergdorf Goodman.

I had the impression Merona was some sort of Target house brand.

Poked around at some op shops this morning. I found some nice ties in one - a Brioni, an Altea and a Kenzo. In another, I found a book I've been meaning to buy for months. I started to get that little buzz, so I looked in a few more. Nothing. Oh, well, not bad.

Driving home, I saw a sandwich board, so I pulled over and had a quick look at a shop I hadn't seen before. Inside I found a solid navy Cantarelli suit in my size. Canvassed, loads of pick stitching and outside jacket pockets still sewn shut. Then the lady told me that all clothes are half price, and asked would I like the suit for $7.50.

Sometimes you just know it's going to be a good day.

Steve Smith, are the Nettleton's real croc skin?

I scored a nice, well fitting Givenchy jacket yesterday with patch pockets. Otherwise, held tight to my wallet. Passed on lots of stuff, including a solid charcoal heavy weight Norman Hilton. Fully canvassed, single vent. It was in great condition but way too big for my frame. The super wide lapels and $18 tag scared me away from picking it up for someone else. Nice fabric though.

Also passed on another Givenchy (no vents), a Corbin jacket (wasn't crazy about the pattern), a classic navy Paul Stuart suit (too large and long for me, plus light fading around the inside collar that was quite difficult to notice but ultimately a deal breaker), a solid gray Nordstrom Classics Collection (i think) jacket made with Loro Piana fabric, and a bunch of other stuff as well. I thought I scored a textured gray Paul Stuart with ticket pocket and double vents, but just before paying I noticed a small moth hole in the lapel near the second button. Left it.

Haha, interesting. You should have took a pic - it is a Target exclusive label AFAIK.

Here's the stuff:

But not as narrow as this bleeding madras tie coupled here with an old school Brooks Brothers:

Here's the Hartmann tweed tote. I think my wife may end up using this:

i read somewhere on SF that merona used to be sold at Louis Boston, I believe it got it's start as a very high end brand

I think it slowly went downmarket, I remember the suits being sold at Dillards... they were owned by Oxford Industries for a long time (make Tommy bahama, ben sherman, tasso elba, alfani, etc.). Target then bought the brand from them a while back and took it exclusive to their stores.
