Sometimes cities are weird like that. The thrift situation in DC was awful when I was there. I've found five times as much nice stuff here in Louisville as I ever did in DC.

And you would think that DC thrifting would be great. I guess that the problem is that there is a lot of competition. My area (Eastern NC) is fairly good. I am convinced that it is because most of my potential competitors are not brand savvy. Reading SF has helped my brand knowledge immensely.

More Oxxford today... think I'm going to stop picking it up at this rate! They were close to each other, and I halfway wonder if they were both from the same person (whose name is printed in the suit). Both are for trade/sale, obviously. Looking for stuff in a 48L and so on... but I'm just happy to find such nice stuff thrifting!

Oxxford Super Worsted jacket, measures about 20.5 pit to pit:

Today I found a size 11 made in England Peal black wingtips, and a folding wooden wall valet. Uppers are in great shape, little bit of wear on the heel of the insole, but the soles need work. Whoever replaced the soles didn't glue them very well or something because they are splitting at the sides.

Here is a picture of my $30 bluedot table

Also has the thrifted le creuset tea kettle sitting on it.

My favorite detail has got to be that the insides of the legs are painted to match the table surface. Also, my dad works over by blue dot; he stopped by and they gave him a vial of touchup paint for the table so the knick in the surface has been filled and painted. I'm quite happy with it...

^^ Wow - very nice. When that thrift store opened awhile ago, they had a blue table just like that which I contemplated getting. Looks great. If you ned some more furnishings, I'd recommend checking back there every so often. They seem to get a lot of floor model or seconds from Blu Dot.

It's too bad I live in chicago...those chairs are all from the room and board outlet if you are familiar with that (out on 55). Not quite the same as thrifting...but it has some great stuff occasionally. Those chairs were acquired over time which explains why they are basically the exact same chair but 3 different designs and various colors that were never sold at the same time (I inherited them from my parents...they are from before I would have been hunting for good deals on dining chairs

Wow- I had no clue you moved out of the cities. Maybe I've mistaken you for someone else, but I thought you used to live in St. Paul?

I have indeed been to the R&B Outlet. Only open on weekends, IIRC. Cool stuff, though. We got our couch and some lamps from there. I need to make a trip back to look for a lounge chair and a coffee table, but their hours make it a bit difficult.

I've been out of the cities much longer than I have been on this forum

I was back and forth far more while I was still in school though (breaks and all that) and much of my family is in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area

Also, whenever I am in the area, I have a car...which gives me access to a wider array of shops than I do in Chicago

Table (and the le creuset) looks great. All that color really pops. I think the chairs look better in a few different styles, rather that all the same. Congrats.

No, Sims. Today I did buy an H Freeman & Sons jacket which came from Hubert White. I think I know why your thrifting has been slow. Everybody has moved to North Carolina.
