I have a 41L loro piana brooksease blue blazer that's just a bit threadbare to do anything with (i.e dry cleaner shine) with immaculate "hanging sheep" brass buttons.

I just picked up an old old old-skool sack j press blue blazer that's in good shape. Not one for wearing everywhere/all the time but it's really retro cool if you pick your spots. The buttons, however, are beat to s#!t.

OPINIONS WANTED: It is heresy to do a button transplant?

In other news, I went to Mr Sid for the first time today, having heard ads on the radio for their 70% winter clearance sale and having seen their beautiful clothes (Brioni, Zegna, etc) in thrifts all around, and having come to the realization the store's about 2mi from my office.

Turns out I can afford to shop there! That is if I ditched the wife and kids and found a job that pays twice as much as my present one does. Great store, though, it reminded me how lucky we are to find similar stuff -- albeit not NWT -- for just a few dollars and a lot of persistence.

I did score three silk-wool blend pocket squares off the 70% clearance table, which fill a pattern-and-texture void in my rapidly expanding collection:

1000

Funny little exchange:They had some crap-brown PS's with a large shotgun shell pattern. In the middle of Liberal City USA, Newton Centre. Regardless of your politics (just after newtown) it was obvious to me why they were on the clearance table. I said to the sales dude "Ha, surprising THESE are on the clearance table, eh?"

Dude looks hurt. "I ordered those. They did well. As you can see, we're down to our last two."

Whatever.

^^^ I have bought shirts just to harvest the MOP buttons (if the price was right) and I think it's not only acceptable, but obligatory. Great pieces (of pieces, as it were) get a new life. Think of it as an old heirloom passed from one generation garment to another.

Depending on which direction, you and I may work very close to eachother. Nonetheless, we are probably in the same thrifting territory...

Any one have any information on Dunhill tailors? Mad hand work all over but I can't find any makers tags. Looks to be an orphan, but it's in my size and too nice to leave.

About to start photographing my suits/SC from this weekend, BUT until then, I must say I received packages from CesarC, Beck, and SeaJen today and it really made my day, literally salvaged a really **** day, and ALL of the items were forward trades of some sort. Its been said before, but really, I couldn't imagine a nicer, more generous group of guys who randomly coalesced on the internet... I love my thrifty bros, no ****, and for all the noobs/lurkers be nice/generous and it'll come back to you 100x over. Case in point, i sent acosbysweater that finamore he briefly commented on, why? Because I know he will cherish the piece, AND if he finds something nice in my size i'm confident it'll come my way, because hes a member of the thrift thread and therefore almost certainly a stand-up guy. Uhhh yeah, sorry for that, but the items really did salvage my day, and i appreciate it, and all of you.

Sorry you've had a ****** day, but glad I could be party to brightening it. This community is certainly awesome. Case in point, I traded with Tben yesterday for some of those sweet Incotex pants picked up, and he threw in a 3rd pair just for the hell of it! I'm pretty new to this 'place' but all my trades and transactions with everyone here have been awesome. Cheers, everyone.

just make sure to hide any and all Dior Monsieur and Yves Saint Laurent Homme pieces before you post, you don't want to make us too jealous!

Just picked up what I'm pretty sure is a piece of luggage made out of elephant. Dated 1926, with the OG key! I've never handled the stuff before so if anybody can confirm or deny this, I'd be really grateful.

After a little research I think its just the fabric maker.

Here it is with me trying it on. Super slim, I think its a 39-40L is it too small for me or just right? It's def more fitted than I'm used to but maybe this is how it should fit. Opinions?
