I'd rather they did not understand what was I saying, and limiting it to Guidouches®© pretty much guarantees that.

Not clothing related. (Click to show)

Earlier this year I thrifted a Pioneer PL-518 turntable in good condition.  It's a solid record player, but for some reason Pioneer decided to finish it with awful gray vinyl.  I bought an Ortofon OM10 cartridge and some replacement feet off eBay, and it's been the only table in my system.

A few months ago I picked up a lightly used Music Hall mmf 2.2 for peanuts.  I swapped the stock cart for an Ortofon 2M red, and it's now my go-to table.

Since it hasn't been in use, and I wouldn't be too upset if I were to break it, I decided to spend a Sunday afternoon tinkering with the Pioneer.

The mechanics were surprisingly simple to separate from the plinth.

I used a hairdryer and a utility knife to remove the vinyl laminate.  There's a sweet woodworking store near my house, so I stopped in and bought some peel and stick walnut wood veneer.  I used the plinth to trace a stencil on the veneer.

This was my first time attempt at veneering.  The workmanship is crude to say the least - the corners and edges are sloppy, and the grain matching on the top piece and sides isn't very good.

It still looks much better, and the only casualty was a broken tonearm rest.

I'm hoping I can find another one of these in the future so I can refinish it with teak veneer.

That is really awesome work. I think it looks great.
