Some finds from a few days ago.

Vintage L.L. Bean Baxter State 60/40 parka. Size medium. It fits great and is in great condition, but I hate buffalo plaid so this is available.

Family Hannukah party in Jersey led me to some new spots, and oh how frustrating it was. First spot was charging $30 for suits except those individually marked, so I passed on a staple BB and an orphaned Martin Greenfield jacket that must have been a 50L. They also marked a recent side-vented Canali SC at $30, and with a large moth hole in the chest! All shirts were $10 so I passed on non-staple Lorenzinis and my first Robert Graham, because it was a conservative polo.

Second place was more reasonably priced, but almost everything had issues: BB tweed in my size ruined by large stains; very nice navy pinstripe Oxxford...orphan; very recent navy Paul Stuart...orphan; vintage BB #1 sack suit in pinstripe charcoal flannel....trousers covered in mold (if anyone nearby wants to take a chance on cleaning these, because the suit was otherwise great, it's $20 in Ewing GW).

So did I get ANYTHING this weekend? Yes..these, and everything is available.

Polo RL (Made in USA) 100% linen, side-vented, 3/2 roll, ticket pocket. (39S)

Faconnable unstructured cotton navy jacket, 3/2 roll, single vent, XL

Harris Tweed gray herringbone (measures 40R)

Polo custom fit french blue striped dress shirt (16 34/35) and Zegna casual shirt (XXL)

And a Burberry women's dark green wool overcoat size 10.

Not stuff I'd wear but a couple fancy labels I rarely come across:

Bijan Pants:
593938

593939

Brioni shirt (poor condition, and a size 19 neck, probably should have left it).

Why'd you leave the nettletons? Never leave shell unless cracked.

Nettletons are Alden level quality. Go get them if they are shell.

+1. Someone else dibbsed 9.5, so I will dibs 10.5D

Yeah, if you have an even more quiet tie, like a navy pin dot, that would be better.

Personally, for this kind of important stuff, I go repp stripe in some variety of navy/red combo. Preferably not a straight-up security guard tie, but I'd do that before dots. Just mho, but I think stripes show dynamism while still being conservative. I also go blue pinstripe, gray pinstripe or solid charcoal. Solid blue is too formal, and anything else is too informal.

I cruised through a couple of stores this weekend while out doing other things. Largely came up empty except for a few dot and micro dot ties, all Made in England and decent quality (one for Barney's house brand). I know about the label thread, to which I will cross post once I have pics, but just as a matter of general interest: Is trying to discern tiemaker identity a futile effort?

So, huge shout outs to the following for recent awesome trades and transactions: Orgetorix, Concealed, hooker4186, Sully, 330CK, Xenos, Suited, Randomore, Staxringold. If I've forgotten anyone, I sincerely, sincerely apologize. I've really gotten some awesome thread love recently and I just want to express my gratitude.

And finally: Evil Abed CAME THROUGH for Secret Santa. I tried to wait until Christmas, and lasted all of about 10 minutes. He sent a killer tie and a BUNCH of pairs of Pantharellas (how EVER did you know??) which will be the perfect replacement for the polyester dreck that currently befouls my sock drawer. THANKS, FOR MAKING MY DAY / CHRISTMAS, MAN!!

My past week, I'm still pretty new to this.

I posted this Brooks Brothers 100% cashmere blazer earlier, it's a 42R and fits so I'm pretty happy with it. $50 felt steep, but I needed a navy blazer.

Ties, Hardy Amies, Brooks Bros., Polo, Canali, a cool Valentino vintage tie I liked, an Oscar de la Renta tie I also liked. NA as I'm building out ties right now:

One thing I thought was cool, the vintage Hardy Amies has the price tag ($13.50). Any way to guess/date the era?

Air Force Pea Coat, are these usually worth getting? Thing is amazingly heavy. Has a stain on the back and a torn lining, but I'll get it fixed if the stain comes out in dry cleaning. For $1.99 it was worth taking a chance I thought.

Hickey Freeman Bespoke, kind of an oddball size, 53r, 47/27 pants. Available if anyone could actually use it, although I discovered a small stain near pants cuff after bringing it home.

Brooks Brothers Herringbone sport jacket, 40r

Only thing I've flipped so far has been a NWT Brooks Brothers Country Club purple paisley button up abomination that was snapped up pretty quickly at $35 on eBay. Not sure if that means I priced it well or too low, there weren't really any similar sales on eBay.

Loving this thread (I'm still working through the entire thing from the start) and it's pretty amazing all the cheap staple stuff I've found that's not worth posting, Land's End Canvas button ups, Levi's 514s, merino Banana Republic sweaters, made in Italy Johnston & Murphy slip ons. I've gone a lot of years neglecting my wardrobe since I work from home, so huge upgrade in a short amount of time.

Catside said that this should be a brag - well IF they are shell. Paging capnwes! Hoping these are shell! For $23, if they're shell, I'll send them on to AE for recrafting to have a gem of a shoe! If they're calf, i'll have them resoled by a local guy and have some cool looking knockarounds with some character!

Yeah, I think so. The polo was offered in that era of AE, the catalog number then would have been 8284. Maybe you can get that info before they are sent.

Did they even offer the polo in calf? Seems like every pair I've seen pop up have been shell.

I do love that shoe though. I have a pair in the all black scheme, and I love 'em. Black and conservative without being as boring as a captoe.
