Wait...there are thrift stores in Vienna? Why wasn't I informed about this? I was there for a whole week, would have love to spend a day thrifting is possible.

HandersHund, what are some of the thrift stores in Vienna?

quoting my firsts posts for posterity god damn I was a little prick... a couple months ago...

I was taking pictures of my upper half with this suit jacket for the main picture of my listing for it on ebay when I noticed that with my faded dad jeans and tan I looked exactly like I had just been in italy for pitti uomo. So here it is my very late inspired pitti uomo kit for under 40.
the jacket was $3.25 (the full suit was 7.50) it is a brooks brothers made in usa summer weight double breasted (i wish it were 4 button instead of 6) chalkstipe and has almost no padding. I got it at a thrift store in berkely
the shirt is my dads brooks brothers shirt that was too small for him and a little to big for me hence the collar gap.
the tie is no label and i got it for a dollar
the jeans are vintage levis I got at mars in berkely for $14
the shoes are tretorn nylites i got at shoebacca.com for $20 (they are no longer this cheap)
the unseen belt is unlabeled high quality solid leather and was a dollar at out of the closet(it is an aids benefit charity) thrift store.
total cost: 39.50 so i guess this is really my under 40 pitti kit… anyway I realize there are some problems with fit ect but since I am not keeping that jacket and the shirt is my dads I think those can slide by, also I forgot a pocket square! I broke menswear rule #1 oh well it looks more casual this way
p.s. I don’t smile
pps if I was actually going to pitti uomo I would wear my suede loafers I just already had my tretorns on
ppps scratch that if I actually went to pitti uomo I would wrap myself in cashmere scarfs and parade around like a brunello cucinelli sponsored mummy
now for your responses I think I liked spoos the best "that looks nothing like anything anyone wore to pitti..."

One day you'll learn.

hey dudes, haven't had a chance to read the thread lately. i'm looking for a double breasted suit, preferably american-made (especially BB) with soft shoulders. need a 41R. prefer fully unstructured, but will consider a suit that is mostly unstructured. anyone know where i can find such a garment?

Quote:

ahh dangit, so close. i had a beautiful suit once, but the inseam was too long. thanks though.

my reply is utterly clueless

I have basically that exact suit listed and have gotten a lot of negative response for linking to it but here you go, make me an offer I realize $100 is too high http://www.styleforum.net/t/306314/beautiful-brooks-brothers-double-breasted-suit-made-in-usa-soft-shoulders-mostly-unstructured-41r

now I am giving the whole suit to barrel for free

I'm not sure. I posted the stamp on the insole, but got no response. Nice shoes though, but now I'm super curious as to who the maker is.

You were there for a week and you didn't contact me?! Yeah, there are thrifts, lots of them actually. The problem is that the mainline thrifts charge incredible amounts and I'll only shop there if I'm only looking for myself. The ones that price well deal with quantity and are located in every district. There are quite a few that are located in districts 1-3. I will go to the city center and work my way out. I can usually hir up 5 or 6 in an 8 hour day using only public transportation. If you want specific addresses, let me know and I can post some.

So I had some interesting finds today.

Someone donated a ton of equestrian/outdoor graphic ties. Lots of duck and pheasant print ties from Polo RL and Robert Talbott. Stuff was old. Mid 70's to early 80's. Possibly from the same owner were some super early Polo RL un-lined repp stripe ties. Narrow, maybe 2 1/2" wide.

Label looked like this:

700

I did manage to get some crazy Equestrian print Burberrys ties. Older but very cool. There were 4 total but I missed one. Only found out about it when I saw another guy flipping through ties grab it. Huge :fu: moment there.

No photos of those at the moment. Also not pictured are a pink cotton Vineyard Vines sweater and a crazy striped and plaid pleate front shirt by Comme des Garcons which is getting the stain treatment.

I think this was the find of the day, though. One of the craziest RL things I've seen. A Navajo print wool poncho. Made in Great Britain.

Haha, I was in Europe for Oktoberfest, loads of beer and cigarettes. When I left Munich for Vienna, I was sick as a dog, I mean I was just coughing my lungs out and I could barely speak a sentence before my voice breaks, good times :D I think I stayed around district 12 or 13, close to Schonbrunn. Awesome city, absolutely adore the city centre. I wouldn't mind if you share the list, I'm pretty sure I'll be visiting Munich again, and Vienna too.

Was this at the one by my work? I grabbed a Polo Country shirt jacket thing there. Not sure if people collect that kind of stuff but it's kinda cool. It'd be cooler though if it wasn't bright yellow.

Also is this a good vintage outerwear find? Vintage Columbia USA made Gore Tex. No size indicated that I could find.

Nice blanket! I haven't seen one in awhile, they're fairly rare to find, especially in such nice condition!

Haha, I was in Europe for Oktoberfest, loads of beer and cigarettes. It sounds like you had fun! Schönbrunn is in the 13th I believe, so you're probably right that you stayed in the 12th or 13th district. It's a nice area to stay for a relatively quiet vacation and especially so if you enjoy jogging through the imperial gardens. When I hit Vienna, I usually start at the city center and work my way out. It's a large enough city that it would take me a couple of days to get to all of the thrifts. There is a great store in the 5th-6th that has a ton of antique and vintage furniture, but they generally mark clothes up (and know their brands).

However, there are a few non-profit places that mark all shirts at €3, suits €10, etc. They're unfortunately few and far between, but definitely exist. I'll take a look at my list tomorrow, unfortunately I'm dead tired tonight, but I'll get it posted at some point. Whenever you OR ANYONE ELSE wants to hit a spot anywhere near me, let me know! I'm always willing to help someone out a bit!

Busy could be used.

On the shoes, look great. From the indentations between the eyelets, I'd say those had bar lacing originally and would switch back to the bar lacing. Cleaner look with shiny leather, nice...

Missed this. I think this was the first time the shoes were worn. The soles were entirely unmarked when I got them. I guess they could have been resoled, but the printing inside the shoe was also unworn. On the other hand, there are a couple of scratches on the heels, so, hard to say. I have no objection to bar lacing; maybe I'll try that. Thanks!

Also: I bought a PRL USA-made brown seersucker 6 over 2 double breasted / dual vented orphan the other day. Found what I thought were matching trou, in my size (PRL USA made, brown stripe -- the whole deal) on Ebay. They arrived. Stripe width exact match. Stripe color exact match. BUT the ground is a whiter white.

This is going to sound like a moronic question, but what does the group think about either "antiquing" the trou by soaking in tea, or bleaching the jacket by soaking in a weak bleach solution? In the end, what have I lost other than the ~$30 total I paid for both items, which are useless to me as is?

Original soles. They were new but dry. I took the laces out to Venetian Cream and buff it. So essentially I must have mislaced them. I don't have any problem with your outfit. You do not have to follow SF dominant esthetique. That is a fallacy. You wear whatever you fell good in. It looks good on you IMHO.

Does anyone know who makes this? Made in Italy (tags in spoiler)

Woolrich - Anyone know what you'd call this kind of coat?
