I love wool work shirts, vintage or not

Wearing an NWOT (I don't use that term lightly either) LL Bean black on gray wool micro-houndstooth wool shirt all day "working from home" in a cold, leaky 1896 house in New Hampshire. I've picked up 8-10 in the last year and rethrifted half of them for fit/unseen moth hole issues. Very picky but when I find one that's awesome I love it as much as I do the cashmere sweaters I find.

So people, my Secret Thriftmas Santa "victim" will get his package, I estimate, Monday.

Fun stuff. Hope he likes/needs the contents.

can someone tell me about Villa Bolgheri ties? This one...

...is sitting at the Goodwill by my work. The pattern doesn't catch my eye but I'd be happy to grab it for someone if they'd like it.

hmmm....seems they are made in the same factory as Zegna. It's definitely a nice tie I just hadn't heard the name.

In DC for a wedding weekend, hoping to check out a couple goodwills and thrifts I mapped out. Also broke out my mtm double breasted HF for the 2nd time, and noticed the fabric label (loro piana 150s) which had no significance before I started reading this thread and thrifting. I wish I had started reading this thread years ago. Is LP typically integrated with HF?

Here it is...size Small

Looks frame knitted, which is the cheaper stuff. Dime a dozen all over ireland if you visit (actually, pretty consistently tagged at 60 Euros with sale prices at 40, and with the number of stores carrying frame knit aran sweaters, you can find a sale pretty easily). Shouldn't be too hard to sell, it's a classic sweater and there's always demand, and the fashion world has been paying some attention to them lately, so they're even in now.

Speaking of sweaters, I just got this John Molloy cardigan from an AAAC member ballmouse. I assume it's all hand knit, but I really don't know. Regardless, it's awesome, and he gave me a great price.

That one does look hand knitted. The easy way to confirm is that if it's heavy enough that you feel you could wear it as your primary layer of insulation on a fishing boat in the North Atlantic in November, it's a hand knit. Hand knits range in price from [wow] to [low whistle].

A couple cool vintage pick ups after work today.
I know PutThisOn has posted about vintage Banana Republic in the past "Banana Republic (seller of safari-inspired adventure clothing), not Banana Republic (seller of Eurotrash-inspired business casual clothing.)" I'm not sure if that is because the stuff is rare, high quality, or Jesse Thorn just likes the aesthetic.

I don't know how rare it is, but Banana Republic started out making nearly exact copies of old surplus and adventure gear, and branched out into making their own variations on that stuff. It should be very high quality. Gap bought them, initially giving the original owners creative control, but eventually taking that over too, and repositioning it. But the Old BR stuff is quite certainly high quality, and that's a cool piece. Wouldn't try to tailor it though.

Found a Rubinacci sport coat 30% cashmere 70% wool, never seen their tailored stuff before, worth anything?

Really depends. I have seen Rubinacci stuff with varying quality. The good tailored stuff will have a small white label inside that has a crown shape and says LH Napoli.

Also, a pretty damn sweet vintage Hercules wool work shirt. I haven't seen too much vintage workwear on this thread, and as you guys are my main source of knowledge, I don't know too much about this one. I've seen the brand on a few vintage workwear blogs, it's winter, the shirt is wool, and it fits... so what the hell right?

The elbows are blown but I figure I can patch them up.

Nice find on the vintage BR parka! That work shirt is a score! I'd say it likely dates from the mid 50's. The name sells for a lot of money in Japan.

Most of these are from small firms that are literally a cottage industry where the sweaters are hand knitted. As noted, you can tell by the weight and the tight knit. Super warm and always worth picking up if they are in great / good condition. Sorry that it is not my size! Very well done!

It is pretty heavy, so maybe we're in low-whistle territory.

Regardless, it's pretty damn great.

Last but not least...kinda of a slow night...

Kick ass J Press 3 roll 2. Has to be linen...just not sure if it's a blend or %%

THAT is awesome.

Not sure whether I found my secret santa gift or not. Prolly not. Anyway, here's what I found: Dark navy herringbone overcoat, car coat length and all proportions very, very modern. All seems very straightforward. Until you see this Closer inspection reveals these (and only these) tags: Quality is very high, and as said cut is very modern. Fits me like a glove, too. As long as I'm not wearing a jacket. so I guess that makes it, what, a 40? Or 38? (Bbtw, sorry about the crappy cellphone pics) In other news: that tip on using Photobucket mobile app to post pics to the thread works. THANKS!
