Can anyone tell me about Em's of Mason's?
I found two pairs in my size last night at a local GW for $15 each. They seem pretty well made. I'd never heard of the brand before...

Masons is a higher-end Italian maker. EM's is a line of theirs. Not sure what it signifies as it's all pretty casual stuff. A local SW&D shop here carries the stuff. Shorts retail about $150-$175 and trousers retail about $250. Doesn't do well on the bay for some reason but it's nice stuff for yourself. I stocked up on a bunch of their shorts on sale 5-ish years ago and they're still going strong.

AE and AF tees with jeans or shorts seem to be the standard uniform in the land of Lululemon and Yoga.

For real? I just know that a pair of sweat pants sell for north of $100 because it was made with some absurd materials (like seaweed, or granola, or some other ****, I don't know). Nataku, care to elaborate?

Indeed it does. Damn nice stuff, too. Just sold a pair of used track pants for $80. Retail is $110. That's saying something right there. Can't figure out why. It's not like supply is low - they have a estore on their website and stores are popping up in and around major cities all over the place. I think it's just a trend. Whatever it is, it's hot right now. Seems like everyone these days around here is sporting the label. If you see a hot chick in yoga pants, you're damn near guaranteed to see that reflective logo somewhere.

If anyone finds men's Lulu stuff in an XL though, I call dibs! Love the stuff!

I once drove an hour to a SA in the Kerrisdale neighbourhood (it's a pretty expensive area), after a waitress told me she has found a lot of "really good stuff" there. After 30 minutes of looking (literally) at every single menswear item, nothing
I should have known better when she defined "really good stuff" as Lululemons.

I would have grabbed any Lululemon stuff under $12... A few months ago, I was shopping at one of my favorite thrift shops, and Sarah Palin snatched a pair out of pants out of my hands. She will actually wear them, but still, I could have made $15-25 on that pair.


As for the "good stuff", in my neighborhood I see one good brag-worthy item every 3-6 months. It's a sea of George Forman, occasionally accented with Dior licensed and moth-eaten Pendleton.

Not as much fun? I look at it like an episode of Law & Order. The first half is the detective work. Beating the racks, flipping the hangers, looking for those tell tale clues hidden in the details of a waistband or collar*. (*cop talk for arrest!) Then you move into the second half of the show where you use your skill and knowledge of fit and style to prosecute/present your case to the tailor to get the verdict you want.

Great comparison dig, I went to 2 different taylors yesterday. The first lady works on simple inexpensive fixes for my 'bay merchandise. These are things I might be able to do myself, but she charges $3 - $5 per item. The other cat is a master, he handles my keepers. I pay him more but trust him with my best finds.

Hot damn, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for Lululemon from this point onward. I'll have to start browsing the woman's section too, hopefully I won't get too many weird looks.

I remember another poster's favorite reply is "Well sometimes they put men's stuff here too." Will keep that in mind.

The usual suspects: Goodwill, Value Village, Salvation Army plus any independent or ladies auxiliary stores.
This thread gives a skewed perception of what's available. We're from across N. America and Europe and you only see the good stuff posted. You don't see the 100s of pieces of crap we touch to find the good stuff.
Even smaller communities have stuff so Vancouver should be no problem once you train your eyes and put in the hours.

I actually greatly appreciate the reply - I am working on replacing my man-child skate clothes with actual mens clothes, so I am brand new to most of this. I honestly didn't know if putting in the time at Value Village/Salvation time was even worth it - or if you guys simply stuck to off the beaten path thrift stores...

Now knowing that it's more about just taking the time and putting in the hours - I will be hitting the pavement this weekend to scour some shelves

Also, I do realize that this thread is simply the good stuff out of thousands of visits, but I still just needed somewhere to start - appreciated.

I went to 3 thrift stores in Vancouver and ended up finding a lot of decent things and that was just randomly walking into them for the first time. I imagine if you actually spent some time repeatedly visiting the same stores you would find even better stuff.
