See, whenever I run into a good orphan jacket, I usually get it converted into a sport coat or a blazer.

Then again, I have a far bigger collection of odd jackets than suits. Of course, only about a third ever get really worn.

Thanks for all of the PM's on the items I'm trying to sort through and clear out. I sorted through everything and should be able to get a spreadsheet up sometime this week. I'll filter by size for each inquiry and send it out. In the interest of getting the sheet out quicker I'll only have tagged - or perceived - sizes. If anything sounds interesting to you I'll do the full photo/measurement thing. My luck with posting photos is hit or miss so please be patient.

Snuck into a few thrifts this weekend and found a few goodies:
  • A few BB Makers ties for $1 each
  • A vintage 46R suit - 3/2.5, vented, plain front pants, in a nice brown, almost crepe weave wool. Fully canvassed but I guess everything was back then - Late 50's - early 60's? Unlined and perfect for the hot months down here. $12.99
  • A pair of Florsheim Imperial plain toes in burgundy. They are very recent, so they're not the vintage classics but they look like they may have been worn once and returned. Still had the box. $9.99
  • A pair of very dark navy blue (!) Italian dress loafers. I immediately brought them to be re-heeled so I don't know who made them, but they said "Handmade in Italy" and looked it. I think they're vintage: the toe was more pointed than, say, a Florsheim, and the seams were all joined with a woven leather role-like detail. I've always wanted to experiment with a blue shoe but the only ones I've ever seen were all a bit too Steve Harvey for my taste. $3.50
  • A couple of nice Ike Behar for Bergdorf Goodman dress shirts: a striking blue check French cuff and a much more subtle blue glen plaid regular cuff. $3.99 each.
  • Another pair of longwings. I thought I had every color so these were a surprise. They're a very light tan, almost golden khaki. I have no idea who made them but they weigh a ton and have a wonderful patina since all of the crevasses, seams, and punch holes are a much darker brown. My favorite find in recent memory. $7.99

PS - There's about 6 or 7 new thrift stores that have opened since my last bout of full blown thrifting in the summer. I found an intersection that has one on 3 of the 4 corners. Is anybody else seeing that kind of expansion?

Tom Ford sunglasses (Italy) and Varvatos made in Japan sunglasses for $60 combined at Marshalls. Found the box that comes with the TF too.

Now I have to decide whether to keep or flip for another pair I want.

Had quite the disappointment today. Swung into my local thrift store today. Going down the shirt row, I found about 15 NWOT Brooks Brothers dress shirts and OCBDs. Various colors and patterns. They were all mainline, BB Makers and Country Club lines. All had a red marker line on the tag. I have no idea where these came from because the only BB outlet I knew of in Minnesota closed over 5 years ago. I was pretty happy and was going to grab them to sell here for cheap because I know quite a few people here like Brooks Bros mainline stuff. Well, imagine my disappointment when I saw that all but two had store damage or a 2" cut on the sleeve. Ugh... I then came across 9 pairs of recent Zanella trousers (in a 34 waist size - it's tought finding Zanellas in anything less than a 36) in some great patterns and fabrics. Well, every damned one had a urine stain on the lining.

Needless to say, I came out empty-handed today.

Some nice finds today. The suit is a BB Golden Fleece 3/2 sack in gray flannel. Its in immaculate condition but, being a 44 R, its meant for someone else and will be in B&S soon. The shoes are virtually new Walk Over dirty bucks. They, being 10 Ds, are also headed to B&S. The belt however is my size and, I believe, cigar shell cordovan. There is no maker marked on the back, just Made in Italy and Italian Leather. The look, feel and total unwillingness to crease, say shell to me, so its a keeper. Its also new!

I got them at the Buffalo, NY Marshalls on the way back from a trip to Toronto. My local store in South Portland has Oliver Peoples and TONS of Ed Hardy. Now let me brag:

Tom Ford TF68 Chase in Olive, made in Italy, for $40:

John Varvatos in olive/gunmetal, made in Japan, for $10: ($10!!!!

Now, if anyone has the Tom Ford James Bond sunglasses in blue lens (or something similar), I'd love to trade for it with the TF68 and money.

I picked up a Kiton DB Navy blazer cashmere blend on eBay for less than the cost of a H&M suit, so I am pleased. Also surprised to see my size!
