Overall I think the look is fine save for a couple of details. I would replace the PS with something much softer, as you mentioned a linen square, I'd go with cream as white might be too stark for the fit. Also, and I know is one of those ridiculous critiques, but the tie knot is a bit janky. Tighten that thing up and it will look a lot cleaner. Love the SC, sweater and shirt combo.

Nah, not ridiculous at all. It's really one of the main reasons that I post pictures is to find out what I'm missing. I swear I glanced in the mirror as I walked out and thought "this doesn't look quite the way I want," but I couldn't put my finger on it. I appreciate everyone pointing out things I can try next time. I also agree 100% with you on the tie knot...I wrote this when I posted it to the WAYW thread earlier...

First off, a big THANK YOU to both barrelntrigger and GMMcL for sending some things along. bnt proxied me some of those awesome LVC 501s and GM hooked me up with some florsheim imperials that are now my new favourite shoes. Both of them are stand-up guys.


It had been awhile since I got out but I had a nice day yesterday.

I have some Tom Ford sunglasses that are my prescription pair and I'm working with someone here to hook up with some wayfarers but I found some Ray-Ban Gatsby sunglasses. I believe these are from the late 1970s to late 1980s.

I usually go for something more streamlined but I'm oddly attracted to these so I may just keep. Temporarily unavailable.

Next up, RG embroidery madness for ebay. Tons of embroidered paisley that actually has a a striped effect because they alternate in bands of light blue and dark blue thread. I can't help thinking about the hands of those poor Indian children after all that sewing.

Harry Rosen Made In Italy merino sweater and some nice fall/spring gloves. Things I've been needing so keepers.

I see tons of Harris Tweeds here. Perhaps I should be picking up for flipping but they all seem pretty pedestrian. Except for the odd one, like this one. Tagged 107 cm N (must be European) and carrying the Harris Tweed badge. Unvented. I can provide measurements but closest approximation is 43 or 44. BOC is about 31 inches. Public schools in my district aren't great, but there are a few Montessori/magnet schools that are on par with the best in the state. Unfortunately, admission is first come, first serve. On the plus side, I only have to go brought this process for her first year there.

I'm getting a laugh because it's very possible one of your kid's teachers will be someone who was a friend of mine growing up, currently teaching in a Montessori elementary school in Cincinnati. I love the internet.


In thrifting news, nothing yesterday, but I did see a "Cucci" watch. Got a laugh out of that.

I'm cross posting this to get some advice. I don't think I did a great job of mixing colors and patterns, so any advice is helpful. I picked the wool tie up yesterday and I love it. It's my second wool by this brand and I can't find out much about them. They were found about 6 months apart in different stores, but both were in mint condition. A quick google search shows only ads from the 1940s. Anyway, any advice on how to make this a bit better as far as color/pattern would be appreciated!

I like both the tie and the jacket, but there is indeed a lot going on. For me, the first thing I notice is the bold contrast between the tan sweater and the blues in the shirt and jacket. While I normally appreciate this contrast, I think it works better when both of the sandwiching colors (blues here) are solids or quieter patterns. I assume the goal was to get the tie into the outfit, and with that jacket in particular, so I'll treat those as fixed points. Instead of going with a brown or with a complementary color, I would go with an analogous color for the sweater; I still think a sweater is a good idea to provide some insulation between the two patterns. Hence I would be seeking to make the sweater an extension of the jacket while not clashing with it -- darker purples, greens, blues, all could work, preferably with some texture to balance out the visual activity of the jacket. Then going for a non-blue neutral would work for a shirt, such as a cream or ecru as was suggested for the PS. I would go for a simpler PS, in color maybe somewhere between the tie and the cream shirt (muted orange as you have?), but a discreet pattern would be fine, even preferable, if the scale of the pattern doesn't clash with the jacket. In general when trying to combine loud patterns, I seek to reduce the scope of the color palette in order to diminish the boldness of the juxtaposition, but that's just my taste. That tie + jacket combo is a challenge!

So, he's a question - has anyone ever soaked a wool sport coat in woolite?

I found a really old and distinctive Harris Tweed with very narrow lapels - not on my list but I had been keeping an eye out for one - with what must be 1960's crud on the front, back and sleeves. With luck they will not be ketchup satins.

Being half price day at the SA it was only $3.50 so I really couldn't pass it up.

So, I drew a cold water bath, added a teaspoon of TSP and a couple of tablespoons of soda ash and a big dollop of woolite. Planning on rinsing and drip drying tomorrow.

Wondering if anyone else has tried something similar.

These are pretty pristine as you can see from the insole wear and I'm assuming EU sized because they fit me really nicely. First pair I've ever handled, and I must say I'm impressed. N/A
Also this near new Canali tie.

Thanks man, I appreciate the kind words, it does fit really well, it's just so outrageous that I don't see myself in any situation that would warrant the wearing of such a garment. Still......
