Dry here, too, until today. Found a spectacular old-school Jantzen sweater. Mostly tan, with a large snowflake design in dark brown in the upper quarter. Polo shirt-style collar, with big leather button, like on a sportcoat. Hard to describe, but it's spectacular in person. The type of quirky but tasteful vintage I love.

The best part: I happened to notice it while walking past the children's rack. I wondered how it wound up there, but then, when waiting in line, the woman in front of me told me she'd nearly bought it and had just put it down.

Fate, for once, was on my side.

^^ Awesome! What era is it from? I've picked up some cool 50's (?) Jantzen sweaters in the past.

Anyway, a quick question. Do the rest of you have trouble comming across decent outerwear? I've been wearing a Banana Republic moleskin topcoat for the past 5 or so years (it's a nice coat for what I paid and the fit is great), but it's showing signs of wear and needs to be retired soon. Anyway, for the past 4-5 years I've been keeping an eye out for nice outerwear (Barbour stuff, nice wool overcoats and 3/4 length jackets) and I never find anything. Well, I found a mint Barbour Loden jacket a couple years ago that was way too big for me, but that was it. It seems everything is either very dated, is a women's garment or is cheap (Alfani, Stafford, etc). Do people who buy Isaia and Borrelli outerwear just hang onto it forever?

^^I picked this up a couple weeks ago and sold it just this past week. It was mint. Would a 42 have worked?

That is a sweet jacket. My Burberry trench is a 42 and I normally wear a 46.

I find loads of wool topcoats / overcoats. Usually vintage store brands, but usually very nice quality - I don't bother buying them, but I definitely see a lot of them. Sure, not the prestige of Isaia or whatever, but a lot of that older stuff is built to last forever.

I've been looking for Barbour stuff for awhile as well. Seems people just hang onto it. I did find one Barbour quilted jacket just recently, but I am a bit 'fluffy' right now, and it won't fit. Guess I need to get back to working out. I spoke with the owner of a mens consignment store about this very subject. He said he is supposed to be getting some Barbour coats for this winter, that will have a hefty discount, but definitely not thrift store prices. He gets some pretty high end stuff, but I'm not sure about Isaia or Borrelli. He does get Brioni, Canali, Aquascutum, Burberry, etc.

I have a couple coats for sale/trade but nothing in a 42, as that's approximately my size. I have a Canali blue wool herringbone in a 44 but that's the closest.

I aced a test today (he chose one of five potential essay questions, and it happened to be the one that I knew an abundance of information about, becasue we dealt with the same problem in another one of my classes that was higher level) so I headed over to salvation army by campus to celebrate. I picked up a tie and an old BB sport jacket. I wasn't sure if it was an orphaned suit jacket at first, but decided that the odd buttons and unstructured nature indicated it was not. Perhaps you can judge (it also has fantastically fine pick stitching and all over). Happily enough, I was walking on my way back to my place and I bumped into a hot girl that I met at a party last weekend. I meant to move in for a kiss, but couldn't bring myself to do it, because my friend was convinced that she wasn't into me (though she seemed to be). She insisted on giving me a ride back to my place, we talked for a bit, I got her number and we'll be going out for lunch.

Excellent! Thrift finds, a hot girls number and a date with the said hot girl. All in a good days work...

Not much today at the local Goodwill but i did to get something i've been wanting.

black Christian Dior trench in excellect shape with lining. They also had a grey trench but it was just a wee bit too tight across my shoulders.

Also it's really starting to infuriate me how many suit jackets i see in my size that are really nice but have no pants. It sucks.

I'm with you on the Burberry. I, too, am a 46/48 and my Burberry is a 42. I really wanted that Barbour to fit, but it was tight across the chest.
