If we're talking about Prada suits and sportcoats, a lot of that is fused with no detailing, right? One of the nicer Tom James jackets is a different story.
Didn't know Belvest had anything to do with Prada, but it makes sense as many global clothing brands, especially the ones already based in Europe, will contract with a European workshop that might have a reputation of its own to do up their clothes. That said, Prada stuff might be made in the same factory as Belvest, but you're much better off with an actual Belvest garment. Belvest doesn't have as many shareholders to please or much if any advertising budget to fund, so they don't have much need to cut corners. I can't even remember the last time I looked at a Prada suit, but nothing of theirs I can recall looked anything like that navy Tom James blazer I posted a photo of above. Again, I think the actual construction of a Tom James garment is much better than the reputation of the business side of TJ would have many think: If you find like-new TJ stuff with the Ventura, Royal Classic, or older Filo a Mano label, it is full canvas. And if you find any of their stuff from a different line that has the Holland and Sherry tag, do the pinch test to check for canvas - hard to think a mtm customer would spring for H&S fabric on a fused garment (I believe I saw an Innocenti Oro line garment with H&S fabric and full canvas once).
Most Prada is fused. And in any case, Prada may make clothing for men, but they are not a menswear label. Don't be fooled into thinking their products for you are equal to their products for "her." Witness exhibit B: Prada's awful men's shoes. Those for sure are only to be thrifted at the steepest of steep discounts.
Snoogz, post photos of the bespoke ones you traded for, if you get the chance. I've never come across one of the bespoke level Tom James suits and am curious about how to ID them. From what I understand about their production, they are close to Oxxford quality, if not Oxxford suits themselves, as they are made in the same factory in Chicago where Oxxford suits are made.
Don't feel wounded, tex. It's easy to become intoxicated by a label's branding aura at the expense of underestimated and overlooked quality elsewhere. Your provision of photos depicting that EuroRail conductors' suit proves my point nicely!
Hahaha, OK, but come on...it happens to the best of us. I remember one GMMcL post from awhile back that included the words ....and not a single popcorn icon? Really?!.
New Pics! Truzzi on the right, Loro Piana on the left (it didn't get any love either ) Both 100% Cashmere.
Navy, 56. . . . I discovered that it fits perfectly.
Sure, I could be a jerk...but so is someone who hijacks a thrifting thread to start a flame war. Thanks for the hearty welcome - glad to know I'm in fellow company!True, but some people just like Prada, right? You know, different cuts, silhouettes, more fashion-forward details... there's more to clothes than just the amount of handwork, right?
Yeah, Prada tailored stuff is made by Belvest and Cantarelli, not quite to the tailoring standards of those makers' mainlines, but you know like I said, different people have different priorities, right?
Man, you sure care a lot about what's inside your suits...
Ohhhh now I get it, you're a jerk. Welcome to StyleForum.
Okay, please go easy on me, posting my first thrift fit pic...
