Also I work out and eat a bunch but I have always done that, my shoulder have just recently gotten way bigger and the billy Reid fits like a 42L not a 44R

If we're talking about Prada suits and sportcoats, a lot of that is fused with no detailing, right? One of the nicer Tom James jackets is a different story.

True, but some people just like Prada, right? You know, different cuts, silhouettes, more fashion-forward details... there's more to clothes than just the amount of handwork, right?

Didn't know Belvest had anything to do with Prada, but it makes sense as many global clothing brands, especially the ones already based in Europe, will contract with a European workshop that might have a reputation of its own to do up their clothes. That said, Prada stuff might be made in the same factory as Belvest, but you're much better off with an actual Belvest garment. Belvest doesn't have as many shareholders to please or much if any advertising budget to fund, so they don't have much need to cut corners. I can't even remember the last time I looked at a Prada suit, but nothing of theirs I can recall looked anything like that navy Tom James blazer I posted a photo of above. Again, I think the actual construction of a Tom James garment is much better than the reputation of the business side of TJ would have many think: If you find like-new TJ stuff with the Ventura, Royal Classic, or older Filo a Mano label, it is full canvas. And if you find any of their stuff from a different line that has the Holland and Sherry tag, do the pinch test to check for canvas - hard to think a mtm customer would spring for H&S fabric on a fused garment (I believe I saw an Innocenti Oro line garment with H&S fabric and full canvas once).
Most Prada is fused. And in any case, Prada may make clothing for men, but they are not a menswear label. Don't be fooled into thinking their products for you are equal to their products for "her." Witness exhibit B: Prada's awful men's shoes. Those for sure are only to be thrifted at the steepest of steep discounts.

Yeah, Prada tailored stuff is made by Belvest and Cantarelli, not quite to the tailoring standards of those makers' mainlines, but you know like I said, different people have different priorities, right?

Snoogz, post photos of the bespoke ones you traded for, if you get the chance. I've never come across one of the bespoke level Tom James suits and am curious about how to ID them. From what I understand about their production, they are close to Oxxford quality, if not Oxxford suits themselves, as they are made in the same factory in Chicago where Oxxford suits are made.

Man, you sure care a lot about what's inside your suits...

Don't feel wounded, tex. It's easy to become intoxicated by a label's branding aura at the expense of underestimated and overlooked quality elsewhere. Your provision of photos depicting that EuroRail conductors' suit proves my point nicely!

Ohhhh now I get it, you're a jerk. Welcome to StyleForum.

Okay, please go easy on me, posting my first thrift fit pic...

Sport coat: Oxxford Cashmere - from my first real big haul back when I started thrifting in spring of 2012. Put on a few pounds during the busy season at work, so its a tad snug.
Shirt and Trousers: Brooks Brothers
Tie: Isaia, ethrifted last week.
Shoes: Vintage Alan McAfee for Bullock & Jones. Gifted from a fellow member on AAAC who was streamlining his wardrobe.
Belt (not visible): James Reid of Santa Fe, sterling silver and bison.

5 year old: homemade. Easily my favorite part of this photo.

Hahaha, OK, but come on...it happens to the best of us. I remember one GMMcL post from awhile back that included the words ....and not a single popcorn icon? Really?!. :rotflmao:

Sad, but true.
In fairness to me, I was on a streak where I was freaking killing it. And I indicated I had an exceptionally good day. I got no respect.
But I've come to realize what's already been said: Others, like me, DO appreciate everything on the thread. That's why we come back. We're like a couple that's been together for years: We may not say "Damn, you look hot in those sweatpants" every time, but we all know we mean it.
And I do, dudes. I appreciate you and love your posts.
:brofist:

New Pics!  Truzzi on the right, Loro Piana on the left (it didn't get any love either  )  Both 100% Cashmere.

ZOMG! That LP is stunning!
Maybe nobody noticed it. ASK HIM WHAT SIZE IT IS AND IF IT'S AVAILABLE!
So, Dan what size and is it...

Navy, 56.  . . . I discovered that it fits perfectly.

DOH!

Sure, I could be a jerk...but so is someone who hijacks a thrifting thread to start a flame war. Thanks for the hearty welcome - glad to know I'm in fellow company!

Totes photobombed.

I would have opted for a lighter trou with that jacket. It's pretty dark and busy, so a darker color, imho, makes the fit seem very drab and dark. Similarly, the black shoes -- I almost universally prefer brown these days.

Ideally, trou would be a hair slimmer and shorter. But I'm the last person to talk in that department.

Jacket sleeve length is good, but just be sure the right shirt sleeve is just caught in your jacket sleeve -- not actually too short.

Similarly jacket length is good and shoulders are pretty close. Maybe a hair too big, but I wouldn't get worked up over it. As you say, the jacket is a tad snug, which is buckling the lapels and opening the quarters a bit too much.

Hard to see colors, but the scale and value contrast of the jacket and tie seem pleasing.

Overall, you're in pretty good shape to start with, and swap the trou for gray and the shoes for brown and you're dancing.

Manolo Blahniks? About all I'm looking at on a woman is her shoes, so that part of your point is probably less lost on others than it is on me. But I do totally agree with the thrust of it: in the end, it's just clothes. Arguing about them, however, can be fun - like the best dinner conversation, it's totally vapid at the same time that it produces a mild thrill. And superficiality in its classic form does not tolerate relativism well. So when I hear a guy "ooh" and "ahh" at some designer whose clothes are plastered all over Times Square and whose name appears in a dozen pop songs, I'll have something to say about it. But, you're right. Just clothes.
