Jeez, he hasn't responded all day. I sure hope he was joking about cutting up a beautiful Barbour. If he wasn't, I'm going to go ram my head against a brick wall.
Good pass. You'll be able to tell a good one when you see it. Most of the stand up ones are pretty nice, the one you have were pretty basic consumer models and they were played laying flat.
This is a good example of a good one to pick up, even if they want $100 for it.
Pioneer RT-909. Sold a working one for $700+ and a non-working one for parts for $300. That was both in one year. It's been about 4 years since I've seen one.
It's hard to figure out but all I can really say is to go off of feel. Any amps that have tubes are probably worth money. Heathkit and all those. Any Marantz, old Pioneer, Technics by Panasonic, etc. Cassette decks are pretty much worthless unless it's a very high-end deck with a lot of controls. Of course newer high-end audio gear is easy to spot, but you'd be hard pressed to find any. I've never found any super high-end audio (McIntosh, Mark Levinson, Carver, Conrad Johnson, etc). The heavier the better.
Speaking of old stereo equipment, I passed on this this weekend.
The lid is there behind it. No way to test it and I don't know anything about this stuff. I thought about getting it anyway since it would only be like $3, but I don't have the space. Good? Bad?
