So does mine. I hadn't seen several of the colors before.

The full rundown:

Gray
Traditional Rigid Blue
Powder Blue (probably the aforementioned 70s)
Khaki
Brown
Black
Slubby (in color variation not texture) blue with white stitching.

All had the "new fit" 501 back waistband tag. The gray looks good but it's a lighter gray with a white weft thread so I am not sure how deep any fades are going to look worn.

Okay, question:

I bought two pairs of STF's (one black, the other khaki). I wear 31, got 32 since I figured they would shrink a lot. I hot soaked them for an hour, then line dried. They didn't shrink much. Another hour long hot soak, then I put them in a dryer for about 20 minutes each (not too hot). Lined dried, and they only shrunk a little bit more.

What can I do to get these F***ers to shrink without ruining them completely? Throw them in the dryer right now? Hot wash w/ no soap + line dry &/or hot dryer?!

For the best fitting 501's this is what I do. I have 3 blue STFs and 1 black STF (I work at Levi's so I can't wear anything else and I'm too cheap to buy LVC's).
1) Go in-store and try on the size to which you can barely button.
2) Jump in a hot tub with the jeans on for 30 minutes.
3) Walk around in them 'till they dry.
4) Viola! Good fitting 501's!

For me, the leg opening is a tad too big since all my other jeans besides Levi's are tapered. I'm wondering if a half inch taper would really make a difference.

Just ordered 33/36 STF khaki from american jeans, we'll see if they have them in stock. normally a 32, but I've been working out and my legs and ass are way bigger. we'll see how they fit if they do actually come.

Man, are you sure?
They are supposed to shrink 10% which is roughly 3 inches on most sizes in the waist. How can you fit in it if it's already barely buttonable before shrink?

Because they can't shrink smaller than your waist while you're wearing them. They stop at your body because, y'know, it's solid.

Also, it's 10% in the inseam. The shrink rates aren't the same for waist and inseam. I have never lost more than an inch in the waist on any non LVC. My LVC only lost MAYBE an 1.5 but I bought those well before I found this place and bothered to note such things.

Levi's current tags only advise going up 1" in the waist and 3" in the inseam.

The 1947 501's I bought shrank down way too much to be comfortable. They were a bit big when I bought them but after a soak the waist is super tight. I even tried to stretch them out but they didnt give much.

Theyre for sale btw....34x34 1947 501's in the SWD section

Speak for yourself. I got plenty of fat in my belly that can spill out over the top of the jeans like jello.

Ah, that makes much more sense...thanks. Still can't decide if I should get a pair that is really tight on the waist but looks great on the legs preshrunk, or size up one to be safe.

What's the difference b/w the 1947 501s and the ones being discussed in this thread? Just the deadstock denim vs non?

That's a two inch shrink in the waist... not the one inch as advertised... maybe the 1947s shrink more

FWIW, I bought a snug waist size, and after soaking and months of wear, the waist has stretched out more than to my liking. I should have bought a tight waist to begin with, but I guess the regular fit workwear look isn't bad either.

As far as I know the only difference is the 1947's use the deadstock denim. I guess I'm not sure about the regular 501's but the 47's have hidden rivets too.
