It doesn't sound like you know much about LA style.

yes I would say this is not groundbreaking style advice here: "Leave elaborate stitching, whiskers on jeans, and wild prints to the Ed Hardy crowd."

The stuff at Confederacy isn't representative of Hollywood style, which many equate with LA style. It also doesn't really fit the laid back beachy look you'll see as you head towards the West Side/Santa Monica. However, for the Sliver Lake/Los Feliz/Echo Park/Downtown crowd, Confederacy is quite representative of current fashion trends.

Definitely the case. I realize this is the old argument of "just how much should SAs know/care about what they're pushing" but I've had a few experiences where I'd TELL them what brand they had in stock as if the clothes just dropped onto their racks out of thin air.

The store is still worth a visit. It's a really nice space. The buys are a bit schizo, however. At first, I thought they were just buying because of opening the store mid-season and merely needed to fill rack space (Bixby?) but now you've got to wonder if it's just part of the master plan/ slow business.

the schizo-quality has gotten worse too. $1100 Burberry sweaters were the new wtf item last I checked.

at least they don't force all of the male employees to dress like justin timberlake anymore.

Born and raised in SoCal, so I think I know what I'm talking about. Not the few of you on this board who are ahead of the curve, but what many through out the Southland think is "stylish".

If you go and it sucks, you can at least walk a few doors down and get an Umami burger

Or go to Malo, drink some tequila, and go back and see if you're still opposed to the offerings

.

My favorite, however, is Dusty's about a mile east. Awesome flavored mimosas, the best "bacon" I've ever had, and really great staff.

And speaking of that stretch of Sunset, has anyone been into that store a few doors down, Glory? I looked in the window and saw a bunch of biker gear and what looked like Nudie jeans, but didn't have time to actually go check it out.

i'm not taking sides here, but south willard doesn't really kill. i love the store, but they don't have anything but the same button down collared shirts by different brands and quoddys. sorry its the truth.
great store none the less.

The real world class stores of LA are Maxfield, and Ron Herman. Maxfield has consistently good, and often prescient, buys (they had first season CCP, Cloak, etc...). Ron Herman had Dries van Noten alongside DSquared alongside Margiela alongside Helmut Lang in 2000, and made it all look very LA, in the best possible way - i.e. casual and thrown together without being sloppy. There are lots of other, very nice stores in LA, but those two are the standard bearers.

I find both of these stores kind of intimidating :p I've actually avoided even going into Maxfield based on the stuff I've heard.
