been following this excellent site for a while now but first time posting...here's a bunch of images i grabbed from the "Everybodys and Actor..." in response to the scarf/crombie debate

Have you heard me sing?

Speaking of what to wear under a crombie coat, were ties ever common wear for original skinheads under their crombie besides a silk scarf?
I don't recall ever seeing pictures of originals wearing ties under a crombie.

Also were there other types of overcoats besides the crombie style that were ever worn by originals? What about an "inverness cape?"

Had me thinking, although we always wore a Tie with a Suit, don't think i ever saw a tie worn with a Crombie on its own, so strange never thought about this before, back then before every fcuker had a Crombie.. mostly from the market, we had them made bespoke, the material was heavy wool, the coat was fairly tight fitting and well waisted, so wearing the Crombie over the suit was difficult also unlike a real Crombie it was a very warm coat so a shirt and jumper underneath in Winter was suffice.

Did not see any other type of overcoat worn.

Going back to the silk scarf as i said i never saw anyone around our way wearing one, but i have to say it is a smart bit of kit, and looking back cant understand why they was not that popular?

Didn't the Crombie come into its heyday after the tie, when the more casual checked shirt held sway?

I agree they are a close-fitting coat, I suppose the fit depends on what you wanted from it - if you'd bought it to wear with just a shirt underneath, it would be a bit of a squeeze with a suit.

You have a point their Little Queenie, I had my crombie made after my second suit, The crombie was worn as a stand alone item, we never looked at it as say a warm coat, it was a fashion item to be seen in, At the time a lot of blokes started to wear pork pie hats. I suppose the look was in fact a crombie look... if that makes sense, also we was still wearing the crombie with long hair at football way into 71.

Regarding the film Bronco Bullfrog, it was made in 68 and released local East End, in 69 and never went on general release due to all the Skinhead violence.
I bought the DVD a couple of years ago and watched it for the first time, fcuking awful,

Elaborate on the above, Lasttye. Because it's a poor film or because of its portrayal of Skinheads?

bleaching jeans - i bleached my first jeans
with 14-15 years in 1984.
i knew exactly to provoce a reaction on "the sqiers". but the album shows the earliest bleached jeans i know-its from 1966...
my first docs were "the highlander" in black. white levis 501 i bought 1984. firsr short-haircut i had in 1982. so see the jokes of an old freak.

At the time we heard the film was coming out and was looking forward to seeing it, but as i said it never went on general release, so i cannot comment what we would have thought, but with hind sight it would not have impressed us, in 69 skinheads was at its height, and the look was fully formed, we would have looked at them in the film as scruffy cnuts.

Yes I can see that. I suppose it illustrates that, as in all things, there are leaders and followers and, in this case, smart lads and scruffy cnuts!!
