Just to illustrate what the British Army Battle Dress is, No self respecting skinhead would be seen wearing this kit Lol Just to add the British Army Battle Dress would come New in **** order and would have to be heavy tailored, as illustrated by the pic of the Sgt Major.

A recruiting Sgt said in the early 70s, Its a shame many of these Skinheads have Police records so we have to turn them away, I am sure many of them would make good Soldiers, Before the rehabilitation act of 74, People with Police records was barred from joining the Armed Forces.

Great stuff on the battle dress, thanks chaps.(On that theme - it was sad Richard Holmes passing away in the week)

Brownie, you're not the only one who loved those jackets - That very suede bomber in the photo I wore in the 80's & the fella next to him, in the MA2 leather bomber, I have that jacket (falling apart now) in my wardrobe! And Brixton market sounds about right, the lads went there en masse and every bugger bought one.

And 1968 is written on the back of this photo too!

Been 'interviewing' again - how about white Levis jeans? Were they widespread too? Summer '68?
And wearing boots with a suit? Ox bloods. Then because of strict door policies wearing shoes again?
And one for Lasttye - Club Noriek!

If you turned up in the 60s wearing boots with your suit, They would think you was mentally ill,
Club Noriek ???

Never saw them at all.

An extreme rarity. I seem to recollect on a couple of occasions (late 68?) seeing someone wearing a pair of 'grand-dad boots' with a suit, but you would never get anyone wearing DMs or anything like that - total style gaffe!

It's funny that both Lattsye and MoM confirm that boots with a suit would be a style gaffe because I remember a cartoon from the Marshall Spirit of '69 book that has a MA-1 jacket wearing skin calling a suit wearing one a "mod" (who, in turn is calling the former a "punk") who is wearing boots...DM looking boots...with his suit!

I thought that sounded suspect, more late 70s/ Alexi Sayle?

Well, I had my cricket whites from school somewhere in a wardrobe but I never put them on!

You have reminded me about a passage from Spike Milligan's Puckoon in which a character is talking about having one pair of boots which he painted black or brown to suit the occasion. He says: "Once when I played the cricket I painted them white".

White Levis I am sure they was worn, if they was worn by someone no one would have taken any notice, I mean we wore White Sta Prest. anyway.

I would like to ask all the Original Skinheads to dig out your old Photos etc(this is not a dig at the later Mob).We have a bonafida Skin who is willing to write a proper Account of went happened-as from the insider "Point of View".Step forward M-o-M.This Book will hopefully dispel all the Garbage, that has been put out by the Media or other Writers(who were not there). Please make any Suggestions of how we can collect all the Info etc.I propose a P/O Box Number, that is available for the Author to get to.I cannot write!Maybe if the first is popular, then a second Volume of the 70s/80 Skins could follow.
Thank-you.
