Good memories about the Sheepskin,Ace and Eights. If I remember correctly, you could buy a Sheepskin for about £25/£30(in `68) off the Lane.I remember one Skin having a Sheepskin that was very long. When the cheap copies came out(`70) they were about £15.I can remember standing in Clubs sweating my B*lls off, because you dare not take it off.Great Picture on YouTube of a group of Mates dancing(2 or 3 of them had their Sheepskins on).Even in numbers ,they still got nicked.

Good memories, lads.
Its all changed nowadays as the second hand market gives a different twist to what summet's worth.
I've got at least half a dozen 60s sheepskins but I don't think any of them cost more than 40 quid. Mind you, I bought a few of them in the 80s for a few quid when things really were cheap (and a fiver was a lot of money to me). You see a lot of them now at skinhead get togethers. Thread-bare Brutus will cost you 200 quid but a quality sheepskin a fraction of the price.
35 quid in '69 - no wonder you never took it off!

I could never afford a real sheepskin back in the 60s, You could buy a imitation one down the markets, but i refused too.
This is my Sheepskin a modern version made by Ralph Lauren.

I never had one either. (I did get offered one by a local burglar, but it didn't seem right to wear something from someone's home - a warehouse might satisfied.gif - have been a different matter.)

By the time I had the spare cash, we'd moved on.

Now leather coats - Herr Flick of the Gestapo style:) - and budgie jackets... were a different matter.

Very tidy, Roy - and very apt, given the current weather. nod[1].gif

Ha! 99x. That brings back memories.
Sad that pretty much every store and venue I went to in my youth is long gone. Wetlands, abc no rio, cbgbs and many more. Instead replaced with cupcake stores, frozen yogurt and high end boutiques. Trash and vaudeville is still there of course, and just as pricey as ever. They have crombies btw...

Had a hard time finding this thread again, who took skinhead out of the title? Haha

You could pick up a Sheepskin from the Factory Shops around Middlesex Street etc..,(around `68).They would have no Makers Name or Shop Company Label-just "Real Sheepskin"Label. They were not nicked, imitations or anything, just being sold off by the Factories ( some had been rejected within a Batch)before going out to Stores. You just checked before you bought. I found one of them in a Secondhand Store in Spalding, not too long ago,,bought back memories.I have bought a beauty from one of our Members(on here),and with the weather like it is-getting some wear out.smile.gif

Yankee-Google got upset about the "Skinhead" Tag.

Nice shortskin.

I'll put up the pics of myself in 1969. I know they have been on here umpteen times, but it will save you having to trawl back through the thread.

I thought I was the proverbial dog's b*ll*cks - flash git!

Were double breasted Sheepskins worn in the day? Not keen on them myself, much prefer a single breasted one.
I have a light brown one with white fur and a dark brown one with dark brown fur. Lovely and warm in this weather. As long as it doesn't rain. smile.gif

Abc No Rio is still kicking around.  Can't say much for the rest of it.

Not down my way - sheepskins, fly front macs, crombies and suit jackets were all single breasted

No way Alan, if you turned up wearing a double breasted sheepskin in the 60s skinheads.. you would not only have had the piss take out of you, they would also have thought you nicked it of your Mum,biggrin.gif

I seen present day skinheads wearing all sorts of sheepskin styles... clueless, they must think if its a sheepskin its got to be ok.

In saying that my sheepskin looks nothing like a 60s Sheepskin, but then I choose it that way, smile.gif
