So maybe one of the sweatshops down the East End made leather Harringtons, ??????

I think once the harrington became a popular item (and it was very popular with skinheads!), other versions came along - more obscure coplours, dogtooth, Prince of Wales, Tonik, cord, leather, suede, tartan. Another regional thing but some of these became popular, some never caught on.

I personally cannot remember seeing a Leather or Suede Harrington, but that does not mean they were not about.Once a Style is established it would have been copied and yes the Leather Makers would do that.I saw my first Leather Harrington about three months ago,and I will be honest,I liked it.The other Colours of Harringtons came along when the Harrington was done to death. Now,I look at the Prince Of Wales and quite like it.-mind you it did not look cheap(like the ones in the 60s did).

I agree with Lasttye, I remember buying my first Harrington in green and then my second in black and then used my green one for work.  I do not recall seeing Prince of Wales in the day - were they produced later?  I have never seen a leather Harrington.  We had leather Bomber /Monkey jackets (the same style as the blue nylon monkey zipper jackets) before Harringtons appeared.  The Harringtons we wore were not designer but were from local shops or markets.  Back then markets were popular for getting a bargain as opposed to now days where they are the same price as shops and cannot compete with boot fairs.  Blokes of our age now still wear Harringtons and are generally in black

Welcome Des - this is a great thread to re-live your old memories and meet people of the same outlook

In the early 80's I had several Vintage 60's Plaid Harrington style jackets.(when they were cheap and plentiful)One with pointed collars like this, and two with the standard Harrington collar. One was Reversable. They fell apart in the wash eventually.

Are you sure it could not have been acetate? I saw a jacket recently that appeared leather at first glace which had to be from at least the 60's or 70's and it was acetate, brand was English as well but I cannot recall what the brand was now, but honestly the jacket in the picture looks more nylon or polyester to me.

even the 'expensive' harringtons never really cost that much.
These lads are fro Harrogate in Yorkshire - POW harrington on the right with the trilby.

This is one I picked up about 15 years ago with a purple liner.

RSG! 1964, harrington and windcheater, don't think harringtons were that common pre-Skinhead?
