Hi all I'm new to all this so bear with me!!!
I'm a young man off 23years old!
I've been meaning to sign up to this forum for a while now. Every month I used to pop and have a good read! Lol
It intrigued me by reading all the talks about the diffiant styles and tastes everyone has got or have seen over the last 40years! (On the so called traditional skinhead look!)
I would like to say I mad about mid 60's to early 70's street youth culture style of clothing and music.
I've been in to it Properly since I was 19years.
I always going looking for original clothing every week all over Essex and up London!
Oh and a bit of the Internet with out that I wouldnt own some of my nicest original clobber I have now!!! Lol
As you might have guessed already I love a good old original twisted lable Ben Sherman! I havent got a massive amount but the ones I do own beauty's If I must say my self!!!!
I no off a few people on here already and I expect them to know who I am straight away lol
So I hope it's alright for me to mingle in when I can¿?

  It is estimated that there are around two or possibly three thousand skinheads in the United Kingdom. BARACUTA have been sold to an Italian company. This should be good news, hopefully. An Italian made Baracuta sounds smart.

Do we know what other brands WP Lavori have done 'good things' with? (I've not yet watched the video) It is sad that we in Britain cannot hang onto our own 'heritage' brands - whatever the Italian based future may hold.

it seems the Baracuta for Japan is licensed completely differently than what you find in the west, they make products sold in japan stores i have never seen anywhere else by Baracuta. A huge range of tweed harringtons, selvedge denim jeans, mac jackets, etc.

 

I haven't a clue what other brands WP Lavori have 're-vamped' .

 

True, we can't hold on to our core/heritage brands.

 

Perhaps Ben Sherman should be sold on (for the umpteenth time) They don't seem to care a damn about their heritage and skinhead backgrounds. They just try to appeal to the mass market and by doing so, produce bog standard, boring, uninspired clothing. Such a shame when they have such an extensive archive.

I agree on both points. On Ben Sherman didn't they do a collaboration with Baracuta a year or two back ?

 

They did mate. It think it had the ben sherman check lining (aquascutum style) instead of the fraser tartan.

BUT, it had a horrible over-sized slogan inside the jacket, which was an instant turn-off.

 

With regards to Ben Sherman, it seems they are preparing something for their 50th anniversary.

They are requesting facebook users to submit any vintage photos/stories etc for this event.

 

It would be nice if they could reproduce a few vintage style shirts to the original spec of the 60's shirts. But this won't happen.

I'm not a fan of barracuta's billowy cut compared to merc. I'd feel like a fmr president on a golf course wearing one.

 

Ha ha! Love it.

 

Most folk's gripe with baracuta Harringtons, is that they are too long in the body, which I completely agree with.

 

Merc harringtons are nice. But sometimes thay have an embroided symbol to the left breast. IMO, Harringtons look best without logo's/branded symbols, like most garments do.

Let the threads do the talking, and not the logo...

I picked up two Ben Sherman Traditional Harringtons (one in black and one in the dark sage) and the fit is great. I tried the Merc and Barracuta ones and found them too billowy like mentioned above. The Ben Sherman cut was sleeker and free of any branding on it. Damn comfortable jacket and slick looking. The sizing was spot on too. Ben Sherman is having a sale right now and you can pick up the Harrington for $84. Kinda bummed as it is less than I paid but still happy with the product.
