Can't beat (sic) good pals...
There were originally four of us who knocked about together... two have since passed away and the other is very ill.
Guess I was the lucky one. satisfied.gif

During the 60s,we lost two of our Mates-one on Drugs, another in a Road Crash. To this day,I do not know what happened to the others. We were like Brothers. In fact,Vanessa(my younger Sister)always said she had six Brothers-not one.

Thought I would mention that I saw a load of scooter skins up at Goldhawk Road the other day. They were taking photos of their machines by the tube station. There's a pie and mash shop over the road so I guess that's why they motored down there. As for me I was in my blue uniform so they would not have known what I was barring a close cropped haircut. Probably just as well. Still a few weeks ago I was ready to pull away from Shepherd's Bush Green on my 94 when I saw a skinhead in his twenties running for the bus. He had all the gear on, braces an all so I waited for him. Anybody else would have had to wait for the next one!

Anyway lads, enough chat about radios, bus gearboxes and supernatural apparitions ... who's off to Margate for next week's meet up?
Westcoast Bar on Margate sea front. Plenty of skinheads, plenty of reggae and soul, on the current scene's biggest sound system.
Rocksteady - hear it, play it, buy it. You never know, it might even be sunny! Friday afters til the hazy part of Sunday morning. See ye's there.

Sorry Buttons, but after a costly (but excellent) weekend in Cleethorpes, Margate is unfortunately out of the question for me. Have a good one old bean.

And yeah.... Pah, buses, ghosts and radios, whats the world coming to, next we'll be talking about Jesus, the tooth fairy and other such nonsense ;)

Plenty of young trojans up in Sunderland but the skinhead scene never really died there. Seen a youngster up in Middlesbrough with all the skinhead gear on. I can't see it coming back mainstream but it could be an alternative culture that some younger people buy into.

Skinhead was not mainstream in the beginning. It was only after the Media and the publication of those Comic Books"Skinhead" that made it so.

I don't think he meant it would ever be mainstream in a traditional sense but that it would never again reach original levels of popularity however big or small that was.

In the heyday of Skinhead,it reached thousands(maybe, added with Scotland,Wales,Northern Island and Ireland)nearly 250,000+.At present there is approx.300+ that go to Uk Reggae end Soul Dos(and Oi) on a regular basis. With the small increase of younger ones coming along,it is a smaller Scene-which is how I like it.I did not enjoy the Scene(`70),with large numbers.
