I'm looking forward to going to my first 'do', later this month with 'Little Queenie' and her people, in Manchester - though i'm sure some of them will know people I know - and vice-versa.

It's only on finding this site, I realised how close I've stayed - not the hair, as I have loads of it(!) - to the old style.

Always wore brogues - in one form or another. (Loafers, too - in various guises.)

Always bought - usually for leisure - BD shirts.

Polo - though not in our day - shirts... but the style remains the same.

Boots, albeit in later years, Timbos, Cats, etc... I'm just soooo comfortable in big, bleedin' boots - make me an inch taller, too! (And that 'inch' makes all the difference, eh, girls?)

Good suits.

The always-polished footwear. I hate dirty shoes - what is wrong with people? (I clean my family's shoes - not always appreciated by a teen, BTW.)

Neat, clean and tidy - that's 'us'.

Let me get Manchester - and 'the Wheel' - outta the way... I could perhaps be persuaded.

My missus - despite her (though she never went) affection for Wigan Casino - could be tempted, I reckon...

me to always liked a brouge, i must say now its more a good mohair suit , 60s cut for buisness . and levi s and a good loake dealer boot for pleasure. brought a nice pair of tassell loafers well original took me ages to find . and a nice pair of barker brouges light tan  they go well with either smart or casual

There`s quite a few vintage reggae/ska do`s on up and down the country,with most of the punters being in the 45+ age range.It`s usually a proper vintage sound system playing original 45`s and the dress is smart with a lot of original clobber being worn.There`s a big one on in Southend this weekend and a big one in Leicester in May.

On the 6th and 7th of July there`s a big do on in Margate aswell.....

 

Might have a crack at that one Shep.Unable to get to Southend this week-end(Mother-in-Law died,Missus in a bit of a state).Also might try and go to the I.O.W.to catch up with Jim Cox.

Reads all the Bank Holiday Stories,brought a smile to my Face.I think the one story about Rhyl was when Hells Angels first started to appear.

Ed,an old tip for you(used this many times,when I worked in a Shoe Shop-during the 60s).Get a wooden Handle of a Broom(preferably one that has a rounded end),place the end of the Handle into the area where your small toe goes.Work the rounded bit inside the Shoe,pushing out the inside as you go.Work on it for about 5 minutes then try it on,if not do it another 5 and so on.We would have People coming in and saying about their Shoes being too tight-so we would take them out the back and do this.They thought we had worked miracles.

I thought we had Whitsun Bank Holiday as well.
