What were some of the other brief fads in the scene, aside from the blue fedoras and identity bracelets already mentioned?

Great post Buttons, When you said we don't take in regional differences, I am guilty of that .. i travelled all over with football and saw what other lads wore, yes they was skinheads, but back then it was a fashion, so we always thought we was way ahead in the style. The world in the 60s was different back then, We never travelled far outside London.. But for the first time Football specials allowed us kids to travel all over England cheaply, The Towns we saw seemed completely alien to us, We had that London attitude every thing out side London was dismissed as crap. thats how 14/15/16 year olds saw their world.
When i put stuff on here its what i saw and lived, i try to say it as it was. rather than looking back with hindsight which i admit its difficult.smile.gif

I do get it Roy - I was the same at that age - always think you know best and everything revolves around you.
There was smart skinheads all over the country and some terrible ones as well - the old pictures make that pretty clear sometimes. There's always them who dress well, dance well, have nice scooters, cars, fight well etc. Leaders and followers in every town.

That's a very valid point (not just about Ed doing a few laps of the track!) but I've seen lads in bespoke suits, expensive shoes, nice shirts etc but they turn out on a Saturday night looking like they've slept rough. I know getting older makes it harder to keep in shape (and I'm a good few years behind half of you lot), but there's some looks that are much harder to carry off well, if ye've a few extra stone ye could do without, same as having a bad hair cut, not shaving and not ironing stuff properly.
Ye can have the best wardrobe around but if ye don't put it together well, ye wasting ye time!
Its all in the grooming.

By the way Roy, do you really run in them army boots?

Nice suit by the way, but I would have said that was Prince of Wales. Would you have described them as ruperts in 1970?
As I would have though as a suit, the word Rupert would have never come into it.

I have a Jeff Banks 'whistle', I bought 16 years ago (worn once), lying in a wardrobe with a similar PoW check.

Better quality - by far - than what I bought ' off the peg'- as a yoof:satisfied: and `i'll post it when I can get into the wardrobe.

Love PoW. (FTR: It must have shrunk - or too many pies.) nod[1].gif

Sorry, this was meant to be a reply to post #6183. Haven't got the hang of it yet.

Again buttons you have hit the nail on the head, Their was loads of scruffy Skinheads in London, and very smart Skinheads outside, Smartness is a individual thing, When it comes to Fashion London even now is the centre of this Planet, in saying that the British Man and Woman are some of the worse dressed in the Western World.

Yes it is Prince of Wales, patten, I put it up as a example of the light pastel colour of the Rupert trousers, it is so difficult to describe without seeing a pair, as Harry said they was so badly made i suppose none have survived to this day.
