There certainly weren't any in Liverpool, where I moved to in 1975.

Regarding the above topic, there's a great quote in Robert Elms' The Way We Wore. It's from a bloke called 'Eric the surfer':

Roy, is that the 'Pan' paperback that came out in 2007? What are the page numbers for those quotes, and is there any other bits of interesting stuff?

Up-date on the book:

I just thought you would like to know that I have got as far as page 156 of this thread, getting material together. So far I have 64 pages of notes (that's about 34,000 words) and I'm still going. Loads of great stuff from the likes of Roy (Lasttye), Colin (browniecj), and John (Brideshead), plus questions put by other people, stuff about bunty's brother, loads of other input. Alex has given me some great leads.

I am also in touch with other people who are providing lots of extra material. That includes Jim Ferguson, by the way - I know we've knocked him about a bit, but he has provided some very interesting things over and above the bits which featured in Nick Knight's book.

Any time I remember (or somebody reminds me of) a newspaper or a magazine etc that carried something back in the day. I have written to them asking for permission to use material (photos mostly). So far I've written to IPC (Melody Maker and NME), New York Times, Radio Times, The Sun, The Daily Mirror, The Observer, IT...

I think we're getting there.

Yes Paul, I got the book in Hardback 2006, Adam Ant "Stand and Deliver" The page numbers are 65/66/67/68/69. Page 65 he explains the start of the Skinheads.

I am certain Cheryl Baker of Buck Fizz fame, was a Original Skinhead, She came from Bethnal Green, Born March 54, One month before me.

What Stuart says about Motown, I also felt the same, Reggae was just part of the music we liked,
Back then in the dance halls you would wait for a slow Motown so that the Boys and girls could get together and do the grind/rub Lol. I never get tired of Motown.

I posted this what i wrote on another site about Football violence, just thought i would share this here.

I started to go to Chelsea FC in 68 until 73, I was never interested in the football and only went because of my mates...and the aggro, Early on the Old Bill just got the run around by us, they just could handle the sheer scale of numbers and the violence,
Back then Skinheads could get into grounds tooled up, also it was easy to get into the Home supporters Ends.
A favorite weapon was the Cut throat razor, it would be carried in the fly of their Levis, a **** was cut inside the fly to accommodate the razor, they knew the old bill would not search around the cobblers.
Some nutters carried Axes, The worse thing was Darts being thrown over. fcuking scary.

By 71 the Old bill started to get a grip, Down at Chelsea the Police had spotters with Telescopes at the top of the West Stand, they would spot something going on, Radio the coppers on the terraces, then they would move in to get the lads. which would me hilarious, we loved it and so did the Old Bill, Happy Days.

Just to add i only got to understand the Off side rule in 98 when i started to go down Chelsea again with my Two Sons, who explained it to me. These days i am bored by half time, **** all to do but watch the Game.

Too bad half the nighters skip Motown for rarer Northern Soul these days...
