Summer '72 (The shirt is a Ben Sherman! The hair is Pat Jennings')

A few local things I've discovered...

Does anybody remember Jungle greens coming back in the early 70s?

Van Heusen shirts being a big thing?

Levi jackets were worn locally, not so much in '69 and not by the smartest lads. Some of the local boys would never even wear jeans, let alone a denim jacket. It was ok to wear one with a shirt and Sta-prest, but not as a denim two piece that you could have 'got away with' previously.

Brill Pics Paul, Your Brother seems to get hold of all the nice looking sorts biggrin.gif

We started to wear Jungle greens in 68, but lads would still wear them 70, even later, I remember them being worn with Crombies, We bought the jungle Greens as un issued, So as we washed them they faded and looked even better. I always liked me Greens and had loads of pairs,

I managed to get hold of a couple of pairs last year that i wear at the mo.

Van Heusen shirts was well known in the 60s, don't remember them doing BDs.

As i have said in London 60s we did not wear Jean Jackets, Up North they wore jean jackets with these fcuk off baggie jeans ...awful:D

Regarding lads not wearing jeans , we all wore them, in saying that most of the Rudie's did not wear jeans, They would walk around even during the day wearing Mohair trousers.

I did start wearing a Levi jean jacket around 72 by then i had long hair and was into Heavy Rock, Its a iconic bit of kit, I have a nice big E one made in 68..that i now sometimes wear.

Wow, I've got a lot of reading to do but this is a great thread.

I'm 26 so I have no clue about the old days, but I got into skinhead reggae early and was in a reggae/ska band for a brief period of time (played trumpet). I never dressed like a skinhead, but that was my identity for many years. Unfortunately, I haven't listened to much skinhead reggae over the past few years, but I think this thread has inspired me to do some digging through my record collection.  Good thread, now I just got to make time to read through it.

Also, I don't think I can let this thread go any further without some My.Symarip

Yes, I agree with Noddy. I have seen another pic of this boy but in colour and I think that this is not a Jaytex but a green Brutus. They will be re-launching it soon as well.

I've never bought clothes from them, only records, but Angry, Young, and Poor has some Warrior Clothes for decent prices.

There is just something in the fit and the collar that isn't saying 'Brutus' to me.

You could be right - it's more than forty years since I've seen one!

It is a great photo, they all are smile.gif

I know a mod who has quite a few vintage jaytex, and all of his have the V cut with 2 buttons, but I've seen the standard sleeve too on e-bay.

I've seen vintage 'Naytex' shirts about on e-bay over the years too. I think they were an off-shoot of Jaytex. Something to do with some copyright infingement argument, if I remember what I read correctly. But they were identical to Jaytex.

I like the modern Brutus with regards to their vintage re-produced checks, and the fit is spot on! But the quality isn't great (probably never was) Some of their recent  short sleeves are so thin you could spit through them!. Have to be careful with the iron too, they are  so thin. Why can't they buy thicker fabric?

Bring back Jaytex. Can't do any worse than Brutus satisfied.gifuntitled.png
