And what about the shoes ?

It looks like a Levi leather jacket to me. It has poppers rather than buttons (my modern one has buttons). Yes, they came in both black and brown.

The shoes look a little like the jodhpur boots that came into fashion briefly in late 68 to early 69 in London. I believe those boots were known as 'Riders' elsewhere in the UK. I think that what the guys are wearing in the photo are leather 'Chelsea boots' (I agree with covskin), probably bought at a High Street shop, probably the nearest decent thing they could get to a 'rider' style.

Note how the blokes with suit jackets button them.

Anyone guess the year for this?  Love the mix of styles that you just didn't seem to get second time around.  The blond guy looks like Ace Kefford of the Move:

I haven't seen these here before - Getty Images claim both are from the original period:

^The first picture is interesting (we had the other one). With his very short crop & jeans and his high boots, he could be a 80s lad ! :D

We can see another skinhead standing behind him, with a football scarf too. I wonder what his jacket is, (dirty) denim, suede or leather ?

This top pic was definitely 1970 - I was there at the Manchester Free Trade Hall (I mentioned this a few hundred pages back) when 'we' were all invited to audition for what became Bronco Bullfrog. (Albeit not ultimately produced in Manchester.)

(Is that a young John Thaw, doing the selection process?)

The day before - a Saturday - I had thumbed it down to Northampton to see United beat NTFC with a certain G. Best scoring six, IIRC. biggrin.gif

FTR: you can see the plaque on the wall in the top pic mention the Free trade Hall - it's a now an hotel, BTW.

And the bugger is wearing a red and black City scarf, I reckon. satisfied.gif

Happy New Year, all!!!

EDIT: Just looked at the football result... and I'm wrong, the 'audition' couldn't have been the next day. (Damn this failing memory but I do know I was at both.) shog[1].gif

Welcome back, Ed.

I think you're right, we can (more or less) distinguish the W stitching on the chest pocket.

The zip-up cardy, can't remember any name for it, another early to mid 70s thing. Were they in 'football colours'* too, like the surfer jackets? The one I can remember on my mate at school was ( I think).

* in the same way as Fred Perry piping is now said to be in 'football colours'. Are they really? Or is it just a good colour scheme reappearing?

Any chance Ali had an influence on skinhead style? Check out his docs in 66

^ nonsense. Malcolm X invented skinhead, on his day off. Fact!

I think the guy in the photo wouldn't have got a role in Bronco Bullfrog - his hair is too short!  Did you actually audition?  If so, what did you have to do?

I guess it could be John Thaw as he had been active in TV and films since the early sixties.  A funny bit of trivia about him:

'He appeared in several episodes of the BBC police series Z-Cars in 1963–64 as a detective constable who left the force because of an unusual drink problem: he could not take the alcohol so often part of the policeman's work'.
