Nah, it's a British military thing, where the officers were traditionally 'gentlemen'.I guess he took offense because that is usually what people are addressed as if they have been Knighted?
So let it be written, so let it be done. Mod to Suedehead it is.

This particular old boy was, in fact, a retired WO2... meaning he should/could/would be addressed as 'sir'.
I think he was just being cantankerous - and that's fine.
Ah, but there are officers, then there's 'officers'.They were Ed?Saw them in Guildford and thought otherwise....
Thank you LA Guy.
This seems like a good place to ask.
I am going to be in NYC for more than half of December. (8th-24th). Ive spent most of this year digging into Northern Soul sounds, but in San Francisco there isn't really much in the way of a "soul night" anywhere except the once a month Tuesday night at Edinburgh Castle...
Anyone know of any (Northern) Soul nights currently happening in NY? I was scanning this thread and saw some mentions of Subway Soul (http://www.subwaysoul.com/drupal/drupal-5.7/index.php) which appeared to be just what I am looking for but is now sadly defunct.
Any tips/links would be appreciated! Thanks!
Alright Storage. I went to the Edinburgh Castle do earlier this year - bit small but not bad. Was a big fight at the end. Trouble making skinheads - he hee.
Was also at Subway Soul last year. Had a great night but it was in a wharehouse loft, with a lumpy dancefloor, makeshift bar and in a pretty bad area. And that was the best Soul Night in NYC. Not that surprised it didn't last.
Sorry can't recommend anything better but would start by looking on Soul Source, in their events bit

or email them for some contacts.
A Quote by Jeff Dexter on FB Original Modernists 1959-1966 page.
Jeff DexterThe first bunch of skins, although they didn't get that name until later, emerged 61-62, smart modernist boys with menial jobs, who wanted their own identity while working. They wore Dr Martens from the off, and they originally tried to emulate the US casuals. No one at that time would have worn Wranglers, Stay Press hadn't been invented, nor a Ben Sherman. They had no knowledge of Rodney Harrington either, as he didn't emerge on our screens until 1967.
