No worries, LQ. Do you have a note of the book from which it comes, and the copyright details, photographer's name, etc?

Can't say I do, but I'll see what I can find out.

In case anyone is wondering, the pub appears to be an Ind Coope tied house.

This is me Aug 1971, At my Brothers wedding, By this time we moved on from wearing suits, but i had to dig out my old Skinhead suit for the wedding, Note the flowery beagle collar shirt..which was popular summer of 71, Also the Loathers would have been out of fashion at this time, The suit was bespoke Dormueil mohair, Dark bottle green with a dark red pinstripe.

Interesting point, Lasttye. Did you not embrace the new, wider lapel, slightly flared trou look at this point?

I am sure Little Queenie won't mind my saying we have been exchanging PMs on this fascinating period and are inclined to start a new thread exploring the transition.

Great pics again, bunty. I love seeing the progression of hair growth through 1970 while you clothes seem to remain firmly skinhead. It's funny to see how much the style changed in a matter of a couple years.

I was still wearing my mohair suit in 1973 when I started my first proper suit-wearing job.

Subsequent suits were then wide lapel Likely Lads/ Rodney Bewes-style outfits.

hi all,
I have been lurking on this thread for awhile now. Just wanted to say it is very informative and loving the old pictures. I have myself been hanging out on the east coast from the early 90s. Never really got into the boots, Though i did for awhile play in Oi! band or two, as i was the only one that sorta fit the bill. Was always more into soul, garage, and early reggae.
Just a quick question when did desert boots start going out of fashion, in the transition phase from mod to hard mod to skinhead?

Thanks and keep the pictures coming!

Strictly speaking I last saw desert boots in 1967 in the NW of England - had a pair myself in fact. The transition went desert boots -> loafers -> brogues between 67 and 68 up there.

I had a mate in London who kinda went backwards between 68 and 69, he went brogues -> loafers (not tassled) -> desert boots; however by the time he got back to desert boots he'd grown his hair and was wearing a tweed sports jacket. I have no idea what that was all about - he was on a planet of his own.

A follow-up to the desert boot question... What kind of leather was worn most often? I would assume suede in most cases, but what about the beeswax leather you can find nowadays?
